New DOB-Approved Safety-Training Course Provider Map

Reminder: There are 122 days left before 30-hour safety training requirements for workers and 62-hour safety training requirements for supervisors on major construction sites go into effect on December 1, 2019. DOB recently release a searchable map of all DOB-approved course providers and worker information centers citywide.

Upcoming Information Sessions for Local Law 87/09

The Department will host Local Law 87/09 information sessions for both building owners and consultants to learn about the upcoming changes to the rules regarding Energy Efficiency Reports. The information sessions will be held at DOB's Central Office at 280 Broadway, Manhattan. See the link below for dates and details.

Major Disciplinary Cases

  • $77,500 in total penalties issued to Safety Registrant ZP Construction & Renovation for a total of 15 safety violations on two construction sites located at 88-30 54th Avenue and 88-34 54th Avenue, Queens, which included not having a required Construction Superintendent on site, no safety logs on site, and having workers on site without required OSHA training cards.

  • $37,500 in total penalties issued to Registered General Contractor Aki Renovations Group Inc, for failure to safeguard a construction site located at 19-14 21st Road, Queens, for throwing wood off the building, failure to provide required overhead protection, and a temporary platform in an elevator shaft that was not built according to the approved plans.

  • $180,625 in total penalties issued to Arti Viyulie, the owner of 95-29 124th Street, Queens, for the illegal conversion of a legal two-family home to three single-room-occupancy dwelling units, as well as failure to maintain the building and a zoning violation for failure to install a required planting in the front yard.

  • $12,500 in penalties issued to Empire 850 LLC, the owner of 850 East 140th Street, Bronx, for failure to maintain the building in a code-compliant manner, after a 150' x 10' section of one of the building's exterior walls collapsed into the street, causing damage to parked cars.

2014 Construction Code Updates

Update Page # 73 reflects changes made by Local Law 195 of 2018 to amend the Administrative Code of the City of New York, the New York City Building Code, the New York City Mechanical Code and the New York City Fire Code, in relation to approval processes for alternative automatic fire extinguishing systems, fire alarm systems, emergency alarm systems, fire department in-building auxiliary radio communication systems and fire protection plans.

Update Page #74 reflects changes made by Local Law 119 of 2019 to amend the New York City Building Code, in relation to the definition of site safety training full compliance date and site safety training second compliance date.

Local Law 122 of 2019 (Int. No. 0342-A) A Local Law to amend the Administrative Code and the New York City Building Code of the City of New York, in relation to requirements for portable ramps in prior code buildings where such portable ramps are permissible and signage relating thereto.

Local Law 93 of 2019 (Int. No. 1031-A) A Local Law to amend the Administrative Code of the City of New York, in relation to posting information regarding green roofs on the website of the Department of Buildings.

Local Law 92 of 2019 (Int. No. 276-A) A Local Law to amend the New York City Building Code, in relation to requiring that the roofs of certain buildings be partially covered in green roof or solar photovoltaic electricity generating systems.
