DOB NOW: Build for curb cuts and antennas officially launched on Monday, August 28th. All filings for these two job types must be submitted online, which means you no longer need to come down to our borough offices to file for these jobs. If you have any questions, please feel free to submit an inquiry to DOB NOW Online Help.

New Borough Intake Form Means Shorter Lines at DOB

On August 1, we introduced a new borough intake form, required when submitting certain filings to our DOB borough offices.

This form allows the Department to better track filings for permit and certificate of occupancy applications, while also allowing applicants to receive decision notifications via email instead of requiring another trip to the our offices.

Disciplinary Cases

A criminal summons was issued to a building owner in Brooklyn for a repeated failure to comply with DOB vacate orders at an illegally converted manufacturing building that lacked proper fire suppression systems and adequate fire egress. Dating back to the initial vacate order in 2013, DOB inspectors observed that the building had been illegally reoccupied multiple times as both residential apartments and as an events space.

A $25,000 fine was levied against a general contractor after construction material fell from a tower under construction in Midtown Manhattan to the sidewalk below.

DOB recently issued 21 violations for unlicensed work in NYC. Of these violations, 12 were issued for unlicensed plumbing work, 7 for unlicensed electrical work, 1 for unlicensed welding work, and 1 for unlicensed work on fire suppression systems.

13 filing representatives were recently issued warning letters for having a no show rate of 25% or higher for scheduled appointments with DOB. They were informed that failure to correct this conduct will lead to fines.

Did You Know

DOB is committed to transparency and ensuring that New Yorkers can access the data we produce. That’s why we’re moving more and more of our information to NYC Open Data. This summer, we added two new datasets to Open Data, info on DOB-issued certificates of occupancy, as well as info on the construction-related licenses DOB issues, such as for licensed master plumbers and electricians.
