AUGUST PRIMARY ELECTION

POLL SITE LANGUAGE ASSISTANCE
The August Primary Election is around the corner! The CEC will be offering interpretation services to limited English proficient voters in 11 languages. Services will be offered on August 20th and 21st for Early voting and on Election Day, August 23rd. Services for poll sites that provide interpretation in Yiddish for Early Voting begin on Friday, August 19th. For a list of service sites and dates visit participate.nyc.gov

JULY HIGHLIGHTS

PUBLIC MEETING
On July 26th, we held a public meeting on a proposed resolution to determine the funding methodology for the citywide Participatory Budgeting program. Read more about the final resolution that was passed. For a schedule of upcoming public meetings and hearings, visit our website.

CITYWIDE PARTICIPATORY BUDGETING
The CEC held a public hearing on June 26th to discuss and vote on a proposed rule change to lower the minimum voting age for citywide Participatory Budgeting from 16 years old to 11 years old. CEC Commissioners appro​ved the proposed rule change and successfully lowered the age. All New Yorkers over the age of 11, regardless of immigration or incarceration status, will be able to vote on how $5M of mayoral expense funding will be spent. To kick off Idea Generation, the first phase of the Participatory Budgeting process where residents deliberate and propose projects for the ballot based on pressing community needs and priorities, we released a Request for Information (RFI) application. In response, 230 organizations, groups, and individuals applied to assist us in holding Idea Generation sessions throughout the 5 boroughs. We will begin announcing the RFI winners this month, and will continue to provide regular updates on how you can get involved in citywide Participatory Budgeting!

CEC IN THE COMMUNITY
In partnership with the Center for Law & Social Justice at Medgar Evers College, our outreach team conducted civics workshops and Get Out The Vote for August primaries at Butler houses and Queensbridge houses. Additionally, we engaged New Yorkers in voter registration drives at Public Libraries and community centers throughout the city.
