Dear Friend,

We are so excited to share that “The People’s Money” voting phase is now open! “The People’s Money” is New York City’s first-ever citywide participatory budgeting (PB) process.

Vote Now

Between today and June 25th, all New York City residents ages 11 and older, regardless of immigration status, will be able to vote on how to spend $5 million of mayoral expense funding to address community needs.

How to Vote by June 25th:

  1. Online Ballot: Voting online is easy! Visit on.nyc.gov/pb and follow the steps below.
    1. Select the language you want to vote in.
    2. Enter your zip code of residence.
    3. Enter your cell phone number to receive a code to validate you are only voting once. Please note: your phone number will not be stored or accessed by the CEC.
    4. Read through the projects on your ballot and select the projects you want to vote for. At the bottom of the page, click submit when you are done.
    5. After voting, you will be asked to complete an optional survey.
  2. Paper Ballots: Voting in-person is also easy. Starting May 10th, see where you can vote below.
    1. Visit a vote site in your neighborhood: on.nyc.gov/pbvotesites
    2. Visit us at one of our pop-up vote events: on.nyc.gov/pbvoteevents

How to Spread the Word:

  • Post Online: Everyone can use the CEC’s digital toolkit to post on social media and email their networks. View here: on.nyc.gov/pbvotetoolkit
  • For Organizations: Organizations and groups can invite CEC staff to attend their event/meeting/forum to lead a voting activity between May 10th - June 25th, or groups can request paper ballots and a ballot box to organize their own activities. Sign up here: on.nyc.gov/pbvoterequest
  • For Individuals: Individuals can volunteer with the CEC to canvass and table at pop-up events with paper ballots! Sign up here: on.nyc.gov/cecvolunteer

Though NYC City Council members introduced PB back in 2011, and many City Council members currently participate by putting up their own discretionary funding, The People’s Money is the first citywide process utilizing Mayoral expense funding. Expense funding can be used for projects and services, and the citywide process allows all New Yorkers to participate, regardless of the council district they live in. To learn more about the process, visit participate.nyc.gov.

Don’t miss your opportunity to make a difference and make your voice heard! Please visit on.nyc.gov/pb and vote today.

Warm regards,
