donateNYC encourages New Yorkers to support these nonprofit partners in their important reuse activities and social missions:
Materials for the Arts collects surplus materials from businesses and individuals and then redistributes them, free of charge, to New York City public schools, City agencies, and nonprofits with arts programming. Material for the Arts is a program of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, with additional funding from the Department of Sanitation and Department of Education. By providing a way for people to donate unneeded items for creative and educational uses, Material for the Arts helps divert more than a million pounds of materials from the waste stream each year. Material for the Arts also offers a wide variety of events, workshops, and classes in creative reuse.
donateNYC Partner Fact: In 2017, MFTA ensured that more than 1.5 million pounds of materials were put to good use instead of being thrown away.
