Y15 SESSION 4

Icebreaker: Take 5 minutes to do something for yourself. Self-care looks different for everyone. What does it look like for you?

TODAY'S MISSION

To design and implement your project you must be able to be positive and professional and build relationships with others.

Relationships are an essential part of human existence. We are born into them, we form them in school with friends and teachers, in our communities and eventually at work. Sometimes the workplace presents unique challenges that can’t always be addressed in the same way as personal or family relationships, so we need to develop a particular skill set to navigate these relationships and solve problems in the workplace.

One of the first steps to building and maintaining positive professional relationships is to think about what they look like in your life, and to make choices about what a positive professional relationship means to you.

COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR NETWORK!

GOALS

Today,you will:

  • Understand how to build a professional relationship
  • Identify communications styles (what works best in different scenarios)
  • Understand who is in your network

Portofolio Workbook Steps: Each step should take 1 hour.

PORTFOLIO STEP 1

For this step, you will create a relationship map of your personal and professional connections. Who are your people? Who are the people that you turn to? Who are the people whose behaviors you value?

In your Workbook, respond to the prompts as you create a visual map of the people who are in your web of support.

PORTFOLIO STEP 2

Next, you will learn more about your own personal communication styles. The more you know about your communication style, the more you can make it a strength.

When working as part of a group, whether it is at school, in your community or in the workplace, we bring a certain style of communication with us.

Your communication can be your superpower - and it can also be a source of conflict with others, or may cause them to distrust you.

  • Take the communication style quiz
  • Determine your predominant style
  • Consider how your style will support your workplace challenge

PORTFOLIO STEP 3

For your final step, you will learn to leverage your social media to build your network and your personal brand. To do so, you need to understand your digital footprint.

Your digital footprint is all the stuff you leave behind as you use the Internet. Make sure you know what the default privacy settings are for your social media accounts, and keep an eye on them - every interaction online leaves a trace!

For this final portfolio step, you will review and revise your digital footprint and create a Digital Presence Action Plan in your Workbook.

Be sure to check-in with your host site for directions for sharing your digital portfolio items!
