DYCD Heroe's Project Comic

The DYCD Hero's Project is a literacy-focused comic book initiative that challenges youth across NYC to develop stories about heroes real or imagined in their communities. This year workshops were held virtually for young people in grades 4 - 12 gave them the tools and skills they needed to make their stories jump off the pages of their comic books and come to life. The 2021 comic book promoted social awareness and youth voice. In conjunction with Broadway and Beyond, youth explored social justice, inequality, and injustice, to create literature and illustrations that reflect their voice and ideas. Saturday Night Lights

Saturday Night Lights (SNL) is a youth development and violence prevention program that activates city spaces on Saturday nights from 5:00 – 9:00 pm providing free high-quality sports and fitness training for youth ages 11-18.  SNL began in 2011 when the Manhattan DA partnered with NYPD and other law enforcement agencies to provide resources for youth to participate in structured sports activities and increase the opportunity for positive interactions with local law enforcement.  In partnership with NYPD and the District Attorney offices, DYCD launched the citywide SNL program expansion on July 10, 2021. Beacon, Cornerstone, and sports-based CBOs will operate 100 SNL program locations on Saturday nights to provide youth with a Sports-Based Youth Development framework that activates safe spaces, builds trust, and leverages resources!
