Commissioner Anne del Castillo joined NYC Deputy Mayor for Economic & Workforce Development Maria Torres-Springer at the iconic sandwich shop Hello Deli, located in NYC’s theatre district, to celebrate its 30th year in business and proclaim January 31 as “Hello Deli Day.”

The proclamation was awarded to the deli’s co-owners, Rupert Jee, a native New Yorker and son of Chinese immigrants, and his business partner, May Chin. Hello Deli is around the corner from the famed Ed Sullivan Theater, where Jee was featured for decades on The Late Show with David Letterman. Joining in the proclamation’s unveiling was The Late Show with David Letterman musical director Paul Shaffer.

Hello Deli is one of thousands of small businesses that form the backbone of NYC’s economy and reflect the diversity and industrious spirit of small business owners throughout the five boroughs. Hello Deli is a shining example of small businesses that have benefited from and contributed to NYC’s entertainment industry, which generates more than $150B in economic impact annually and nearly 500,000 jobs per year.

A new sandwich, Mayor Adams’ Vegan Power Wrap, was unveiled at the presentation. For more information on this famed NYC small business, please visit Hello Deli's website.
