The Croton Water Filtration Plant

The Croton Water Filtration Plant Project Quarterly Notice

Since 1993, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has required DEP to circulate a quarterly notice (brochure) to Manhattan and Bronx consumers of Croton water, which contains information about the Croton Water Supply System (Croton System) and the mandated construction of the Croton Water Filtration Plant. The Croton System has been offline since December 2008, and DEP continued the required circulation of the brochure through October 15, 2009. With the approval of NYSDOH, DEP will discontinue the distribution of the Croton Quarterly Notice (brochure) as of January 1, 2010. At the present time, the Croton System remains offline; however, if the system is brought back online before the completion of the Water Filtration Plant, Manhattan and Bronx residents who are consumers of Croton water will again be mailed a brochure entitled: “IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CONSUMERS OF THE NEW YORK CITY CROTON WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM.” While the Croton System remains offline, this website shall serve as notification of the Water Filtration Plant construction progress.

Croton Construction Plant Quarterly Construction Update (October 1, 2014)
Construction work at the Water Filtration Plant site continues to make progress: concrete placement is near completion, installation of mechanical, electrical, heating and ventilating, and plumbing work continues to advance. Above grade work, including architectural work, utility installation and driving range roof, is progressing. Startup and testing of the plant has been completed. DEP has received Interim Approval of Completed Works for the North and South Plants from NYSDOH. Rehabilitation work continues at Gate House No. 1 in Van Cortlandt Park. At Jerome Park Reservoir, work on connections to the water supply distribution system continues and replacement of concrete slab section in North Basin has commenced.
