City To Hold Rowboat Auction

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will be holding a sealed bid auction of rowboats, which have been removed from City-owned reservoirs on both sides of the Hudson River. The boats are being auctioned in lots ranging in size from 7 to 9 boats, and sealed bids will be opened on August 7th.

Inspection of the boats is strongly suggested. Inspection is strictly by appointment only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Appointments to inspect the boats may be made by contacting the locations listed below:

  1. Pepacton Reservoir
    NYS Route 30
    Downsville, NY 13755
    Telephone: 607-363-7009

  2. Rondout Reservoir
    NYS Route 42
    Grahamsville, NY 12740
    Telephone: 845-985-2524

  3. Mahopac Waste Water Treatment Plant
    54 Croton Falls Road
    Mahopac, NY 10541
    Telephone: 845-628-5813

Individuals interested in bidding will receive a "Bid Packet" that outlines the procedure for submitting a bid. Bids must be accompanied by a deposit for 10% of the total bid amount in the form of a certified check, bank check or money order (no cash or personal checks) made payable to the: "Director of Finance, City of New York." 8.25% sales tax will be added to all invoices resulting from a successful bid, unless documented evidence of tax exemption is attached. The deposit is refunded to unsuccessful bidders.

The bids must be received on or before the bid opening time of 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 7th, 2001, at the City of New York, Division of Municipal Supplies, 18th Floor Bid Room, Municipal Building, New York, NY 10007

The rowboats had been used by private citizens for fishing on the reservoirs. They have been removed and made available for auction, because they were placed illegally at the reservoirs, or their permits had expired and had not been renewed. All boats have been removed and held in compliance with the New York State Personal Property Law before being sold at relinquishment auction, including notice to owners where information is available.
