Owners Should Make Appointments To Bring Boats Up To High-Water Mark At City Reservoirs

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced today that the Fishing and Boating Regulations require that boats at Water Supply reservoirs must be kept at designated winter storage areas above the high water mark from December 1st to April 1st.

"Because of the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the terrorist attacks of September 11th and the continuing threat of additional attacks, we remain in a state of heightened security at the reservoirs," said DEP Commissioner Joel A. Miele Sr., P.E. "I regret that this has necessitated the temporary suspension of public access to the Reservoirs and other Water Supply lands.

"Accordingly, we are asking rowboat owners, who need to bring their boats up to the high water mark before December 1st, to make appointments with the Department's Protection Section. Similarly, an appointment must be made when an owner wants to remove a boat from a reservoir."

Appointments may be made by phoning the appropriate office from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Messages, including the Permittee's Name, Boat Permit Number, and Reservoir on which the boat is located, may be left at other times:
