DEP Announces Police Department Promotions

Commissioner Joel A. Miele, Sr., P.E., of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced today that the agency has promoted ten members of the DEP Police Department.

"These promotions are in keeping with the recent expansion of the Police Department and are necessary as part of the enhanced security measures being developed for protection of water quality and the water supply infrastructure," said Commissioner Miele. "These officers have demonstrated their abilities to further the mission of the DEP Police, and I am pleased to announce their promotions."

Promoted to Captain was Lieutenant Frank Milazzo, who continues in his assignment as Commanding Officer of the Hillview Precinct. Promoted to Sergeant from the rank of Police Officer were: Justin Knight, Christian Clinch, William Beers, Joseph Santamaria, Brian Handy and Kevin Tucker. Promoted to Detective from the rank of Police Officer were: Clark Pitura and Michael Perry.

DEP Police are assigned to Environmental Enforcement Units or Patrol Divisions and operate out of six police precincts across the watershed. The watersheds of the City's 19 reservoirs and three controlled lakes cover almost 2,000 square miles in eight counties on both sides of the Hudson River -- Delaware, Greene, Schoharie, Sullivan and Ulster in the Catskill Region, and Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester Counties east of the Hudson. DEP is responsible for operating and protecting the City's water supply system, one of the largest in the world, which serves over eight million residents of the City and one million people in Westchester, Putnam, Orange and Ulster Counties, as well as the millions of tourists and commuters who visit the City every year.
