The New York City Department of Environmental Protection and The Central Park Conservancy present a collaborative exhibit:

Our Water: From Watershed To Central Park

A bilingual exhibit that follows the journey of a single drop of water from upstate watersheds into the City's homes and businesses.

TIME:11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon (remarks at 11:30)
PLACE:The Charles A. Dana Discover Center, (212) 860-1370, located inside Central Park at 110th Street & Fifth Avenue
DIRECTIONS:There is no parking at the Center. Parking is suggested along 5th Avenue. To reach the Center by train take the #2 or #3 to 110th Street. Walk into park at Lenox Avenue.

DEP Commissioner Joel A. Miele Sr., P.E., and Central Park Conservancy President Karen Putnam will welcome artists and designers who created the exhibit, local schoolchildren, and media representatives to the opening of this unique educational exhibit designed for visitors of all ages.

The exhibit includes:

  • life size photographic representations of people who contribute to maintaining and operating the drinking water supply system;
  • a talking painting that illustrates and describes the water cycle;
  • a representation of a water sampling laboratory that contains a special microscope through which visitors can examine slides that will be demonstrated by a DEP scientist to a class of local schoolchildren;
  • a three-dimensional doll house that represents how New Yorkers use water at home;
  • a fire hydrant cutaway; and
  • a "light box" that follows the path of the water supply using historic photographs and maps.

The exhibit will run through September 21, 1999. The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center is open every day, except Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
