Illegal Sidewalk ATMs

The City takes a strict stand against encroachments on public sidewalks and ATMs are no exception. Placing an ATM on a public sidewalk is not permitted in New York City. If an ATM is placed on a public sidewalk, DOT will serve the property owner an Encroachment Notice, which obligates the owner to remove the ATM within 30 days. Report an ATM on a public sidewalk using 311 Online, or call 311

The fine for not removing an ATM is $2,500. Additionally, property owners may be charged an additional $5,000 fine for every five days that the violation continues. Download a flier in English and Spanish on Illegal Sidewalk ATMs (pdf)
