Check who operates bridges and tunnels

Permits for parades, block parties, major street fairs and other public street events are not issued by DOT, and are listed on the Citywide events calendar.

The City of New York's Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for this week providing the locations of road construction and events where lane and street closings will affect the flow of traffic. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Major road, lane and street closings for the coming week are as follows:


East River Bridge Crossings

Ed Koch/Queensboro Bridge

Manhattan-bound exit ramp to 60/61 Street and single-lane Manhattan-bound north inner roadway will be closed Saturday from 12:01 am to 7 am and Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning. Single-lane will be closed Queens-bound south inner roadway Saturday from 1 am to 7 am and Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5:30 am next morning. These lane closures are necessary to facilitate replacement of upper roadway under Contract BRC-231F. Also, single-lane at a time will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm on lower roadway and Wednesday and Thursday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning on north upper roadway and from 11 pm to 5:30 am next morning on south upper roadway to facilitate bridge maintenance.

Brooklyn Bridge

Single-lane at a time in either direction will be closed Monday, 11/18/2019 from 11 pm to 5 am next morning and single-lane will be closed on the Brooklyn-bound ramp from the FDR Drive starting 11/20/2019 and 11/26/2019 from 1 am to 5 am to facilitate bridge maintenance.

Manhattan Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound lower roadway will be closed 24/7. Manhattan-bound north upper roadway will be fully closed Saturday and Sunday from 12:01 am to 10 am and single-lane will be closed Monday from 10 am to 3 pm. Single-lane will be closed on south upper roadway on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 am to 3 pm. These closures are necessary to facilitate bridge rehabilitation under Contract BRC-156F. During south upper roadway closure, lower roadway will be reversed to accommodate Brooklyn-bound traffic. Also, single-lane at a time will be closed Tuesday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning for north upper roadway and from 1 am to 5 am for south upper roadway and lower roadway to facilitate bridge maintenance.

Williamsburg Bridge

Single-lane at a time in either direction will be closed Thursday from 10 am to 3 pm. Single-lane at a time will be closed Friday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning on westbound and from 12 am to 5 am on eastbound to facilitate bridge maintenance.

Manhattan

West 31 Street between 9 Avenue and Dyer Avenue

West 31 Street from mid-block to 9 Avenue will be closed and mid-block to Dyer Avenue will be converted to two-way traffic through 11/22/2020 with weekday working hours from 7 am to 6 pm to facilitate 31 Street bridge construction west of 9 Avenue viaduct.

West 33 Street between 10 Avenue and 11 Avenue

This street is fully closed to facilitate long term roadway reconstruction work.

Battery Park Underpass

North-tube will be closed Saturday from 1 am to 8 am to restore electrical and mechanical systems damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

Route 9A/West Street (northbound/southbound) between Battery Place and Vesey Street

One northbound lane will be closed from 10 pm to 5 am Monday to Friday, 8:30 pm Friday to 8 am Saturday and 8:30 pm Saturday to 10:30 am Sunday. Two northbound lanes will be closed from 1 am to 5 am Monday to Friday, 2 am to 7 am Saturday and 12:01 am to 8 am Sunday. One southbound lane will be closed from 11 pm to 5 am nightly. Two southbound lanes will be closed from 1 am to 5 am Monday to Friday, 3 am to 8 am Saturday and 3 am to 9 am Sunday. These lane closures are necessary through November 2019 to facilitate NYSDOT roadway rehabilitation work.

Route 9A/West Street (southbound) between 14 Street and 24 Street

Southbound single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 pm to 5 am, Saturday from 12:01 am to 9 am, and Sunday from 12:01 am to 10 am; double-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 6 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 8 am. Northbound left turning lane will be closed 1 hour prior to southbound closure. These closures are necessary to facilitate Google Pier 57 rehabilitation.

Route 9A/West Street (northbound/southbound) between Vesey Street and Canal Street

One northbound lane will be closed from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am Monday to Friday, 10 pm Friday to 9 am Saturday and 10 pm Saturday to 9 am Sunday. Two northbound lanes will be closed from 10 pm to 5 am Monday to Friday, 11 pm Friday to 8 am Saturday and 11 pm Saturday to 8 am Sunday. One southbound lane will be closed from 9 pm to 5 am Monday to Friday, 10 pm Friday to 10 am Saturday and 10 pm Saturday to 10 am Sunday. Two southbound lanes will be closed from 12:01 am to 5 am Monday to Friday, 1 am to 9 am Saturday and 2 am to 10 am Sunday. These lane closures are necessary through November 2019 to facilitate NYSDOT roadway rehabilitation work.

Route 9A/West Street (northbound/southbound) between Canal Street and 14 Street

One northbound lane will be closed from 9 pm to 6 am Monday to Friday, 8 pm Friday to 11:59 am Saturday and 9 pm Saturday to 1 pm Sunday. Two northbound lanes will be closed from 11 pm to 6 am Monday to Friday, 1 am to 8 am Saturday and 1 am to 10 am Sunday. One southbound lane will be closed from 10 pm to 6 am Monday to Friday, 12:01 am to 11:59 am Saturday and Sunday. Two southbound lanes will be closed from 1 am to 6 am Monday to Friday, 2 am to 7 am Saturday and 3 am to 8 am Sunday. These lane closures are necessary through November 2019 to facilitate NYSDOT roadway rehabilitation work.

Route 9A/West Street (northbound/southbound) between 42 Street and 50 Street

One northbound lane will be closed from 9 am to 2 pm and 11 pm to 7 am Monday to Friday, 12:01 am to 10 am Saturday and 12:01 am to 1 pm Sunday. Two northbound lanes will be closed from 12:01 am to 6 am Monday to Friday, 2 am to 8 am Saturday and 2 am to 10 am Sunday. One southbound lane will be closed from 8 pm to 6 am Monday to Friday, 8 pm Friday to 9 am Saturday and 8 pm Saturday to 11 am Sunday. Two southbound lanes will be closed from 11 pm to 6 am Monday to Friday, 12:01 am to 8 am Saturday and 1 am to 9 am Sunday. These lane closures are necessary through November 2019 to facilitate NYSDOT roadway rehabilitation work.

Henry Hudson Parkway Viaduct (between West 72 Street and West 82 Street; West 94 Street and West 98 Street)

Beginning Friday July 19, 2019 through November 2019, single-lane between 60 and 82 Streets will be closed in either direction Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 12 am. Double-lane will be closed from 12:01 am to 5 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate rehabilitation and replacement of structural steel.

Henry Hudson Parkway (between George Washington Bridge and Henry Hudson Bridge)

One northbound lane will be closed weekdays from 9 am to 2 pm and 10 pm to 7 am, and weekends from 11 pm to 2 pm the next day. One southbound lane will be closed weekdays from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, 10 pm Friday night to 7 am Saturday, and 10 pm Saturday night to 2 pm Sunday. Two lanes either northbound or southbound will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, Saturday 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday 2 am to 9 am, to facilitate general repairs by MTA Bridges and Tunnels from May 14, 2018 to March 21, 2021.

Henry Hudson Parkway and Ramps between W 165 Street and W 185 Street

Single-lane northbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm and 10 pm to 5 am next morning. Single-lane will be closed southbound Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am next morning. These closures are necessary to facilitate bridge inspection.

Macombs Dam Viaduct between Harlem River Drive and Edgecombe Avenue

The viaduct will be fully closed Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning to facilitate long term NYCDOT Bridges structural steel repairs of the West 155th Street viaduct of the Macombs Dam Bridge.

West 155th Street between Bradhurst Avenue and Harlem River Drive Service Road

These streets will be fully closed Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 pm to 5 am next morning to facilitate long term NYCDOT Bridges structural steel repairs of the West 155th Street viaduct of the Macombs Dam Bridge.

Festivals, Parades and Events

University Place Fall Fair

The following street will be closed Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 10 am to 6 pm for the University Place Fall Fair.

The following street will be closed Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 10 am to 6 pm for the Murray Hill Community Expo.

Manhattan/Bronx

University Heights Bridge (207 Street Bridge)

Double-lane in either direction will be closed weeknights from 11 pm to 5 am next morning through 11/16/2019 to facilitate bridge maintenance.

Manhattan/Queens

Roosevelt Island Bridge over the East Channel of the East River

Bridge will be closed intermittently for 15 minutes at a time from 10 am to 2 pm to conduct routine monthly testing.

Brooklyn

Bay 8 Street Ramp over the Belt Shore Parkway

On ramp from Bay 8 Street to eastbound Belt Shore Parkway will be closed Tuesday and Thursday from 12:01 am to 5 am through 12/6/2019 for maintenance.

Brooklyn Queens Expressway between Atlantic Avenue and Cadman Plaza

Eastbound single-lane will be closed Friday and Saturday from 12:01 am then double-lane will be closed from 1 am to 5 am to facilitate inspection.

Brooklyn Queens Expressway between Old Fulton Street and Joralemon Street

Double-lane will be closed on the westbound for one night a week, either Tuesday or Thursday until November 27, 2019. Single-lane will be closed starting 12:01 am then additional lane will be closed starting 1 am to 5 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate westbound expressway repairs.

Gowanus Expressway/Belt Parkway Interchange between 86th Street and 45th Street

One of three lanes in each direction may be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm to facilitate NYSDOT long term roadway rehabilitation work.

Third Avenue between 54th Street and 5th Avenue/65th Street

One lane westbound is closed around-the clock on the inner roadway, and an additional lane may be closed from 8 pm to 2 pm Monday to Friday to facilitate NYSDOT long term work.

Bronx

Bruckner Expressway between RFK Bridge and Sheridan Expressway

Northbound single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 2 pm and from 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday from 11 pm to Saturday 3 pm, Saturday 11 pm to Sunday 3 pm, and Sunday 10 pm to Monday 5 am; Southbound single-lane will be closed Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm and from 10 pm to 5 am, Friday from 10 pm to Saturday 6:30 am, and Saturday from 10 pm to Sunday 2 pm; Double-lane will be closed in either direction Tuesday 1 am to Friday 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday 2 am to 9 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate deck replacement.

Hutchinson River Parkway Bridge

Southbound on the bridge will be fully closed from 12:01 am to 5 am for one weeknight each week between 11/19/2019 and 12/3/2019 to facilitate bridge repair.

Major Deegan Expressway under the Cross Bronx Expressway

Close single-lane northbound Monday to Friday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday 11 pm to Saturday 6:30 am, and Saturday 11 pm to Sunday 3 pm. Close single-lane southbound Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday 10 pm to Saturday 6:30 am, and Saturday 10 pm to Sunday 2 pm. These closures are necessary to facilitate rehabilitation of the Major Deegan Expressway and Cross Bronx Expressway interchange.

East 161 Street/Elton Avenue

Westbound on Elton Avenue between East 161 Street and Washington Avenue will be closed until 11/29/2019. Westbound traffic will be shifted onto single eastbound lane and two lanes will be maintained for eastbound traffic. These closures are necessary to facilitate Stages 2 and 3 of the East 161 Street Bridge over CSX line.

Unionport Road Bridge over Amtrak and CSX

Northbound of Unionport Bridge between White Plains Road and East Tremont Avenue will be closed 24/7 for approximately 6 weeks, beginning May 13, 2019, to facilitate bridge rehabilitation.

Queens

147 Street Bridge over Cross Island Parkway

Northbound and the east sidewalk on the bridge will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm through 1/10/2020 as part of the Component Rehabilitation of Ten Bridges Citywide Project (HBCR03A).
