Check who operates bridges and tunnels

Permits for parades, block parties, major street fairs and other public street events are not issued by DOT, and are listed on the Citywide events calendar.

The City of New York's Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for this week providing the locations of road construction and events where lane and street closings will affect the flow of traffic. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Major road, lane and street closings for the coming week are as follows:

East River Bridge Crossings

Ed Koch/Queensboro Bridge

Manhattan-bound north upper roadway will be closed Saturday from 12:01 am to 5 am and single-lane north lower roadway will be closed Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning. Single-lane Queens-bound south lower roadway will be closed Saturday from 1 am to 7 am and single-lane south upper roadway will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5:30 am next morning. These lane closures are necessary to facilitate replacement of upper roadway.

Manhattan Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound lower roadway will be closed 24/7. Single-lane on the south upper roadway will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm. These closures are necessary to facilitate bridge rehabilitation. During South Upper Roadway closure, lower roadway will be reversed to accommodate Brooklyn-bound traffic.

Manhattan

Henry Hudson Parkway (between George Washington Bridge and Henry Hudson Bridge)

One northbound lane will be closed weekdays from 9 am to 2 pm and 10 pm to 7 am, and weekends from 11 pm to 2 pm the next day. One southbound lane will be closed weekdays from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, 10 pm Friday night to 7 am Saturday, and 10 pm Saturday night to 2 pm Sunday. Two lanes either northbound or southbound will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, Saturday 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday 2 am to 9 am, to facilitate general repairs by MTA Bridges and Tunnels from May 14, 2018 to March 21, 2021.

Route 9A (West St/11 Avenue) between West 14th and West 23rd Streets

Two lanes northbound or southbound will be closed, one direction at a time only, Monday Nights to Friday Mornings 10 pm to 5 am by a private company to install fiber optic cable and restore roadway pavement panels for a new building until December 31, 2020.

Route 9A between West 34 Street and West 39 Street

Northbound curb lane and one adjacent lane will be closed on an as needs basis to facilitate Javits Center Emergency Hospital until end of COVID-19 Emergency.

Route 9A between Battery Place and West 59 Street

Double-lane northbound and southbound will be closed daily from 8 am to 4:30 pm and nightly Sunday nights through Friday mornings from 10 pm to 6 am by NY State DOT for pavement restoration until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Frankfort Street between Pearl Street and Gold Street

This street will be reduced to only single-lane in each direction until further notice to facilitate rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Bridge's approach arches.

Riverside Drive West between West 153 Street and West 155 Street

Southbound travel lanes will be closed and curbside parking on both side will be eliminated nightly from 9 pm to 7 am next morning through February 2021 to facilitate nighttime deck demolition. Two northbound and one southbound lanes will be maintained at all times.

Brooklyn/Queens

Grand Street Bridge over Newtown Creek

Bridge will be closed Saturdays from 7 am to 3 pm through 12/19/2020 to facilitate bridge maintenance. Drivers are advised to use Metropolitan Avenue as an alternate route.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn-Queens Expressway between Metropolitan Avenue and Gowanus Expressway

single-lane in either direction will be closed nightly Sunday nights through Friday mornings from 11 pm to 6 am by NY State DOT for pavement restoration until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Prospect Expressway between Gowanus Expressway and Fort Hamilton Parkway

Single-lane in either direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for wall restoration and maintenance until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Knapp Street Bridge over the Belt Shore Parkway

Single westbound lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm through 12/7/2020 to facilitate masonry work as part of the Component Rehabilitation of Ten Bridges Citywide Project.

Bronx/Manhattan

Broadway Bridge over the Harlem River

Bronx-bound right travel lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm to facilitate underdeck shield installation.

University Heights Bridge (207 Street)

Bridge will be closed for one hour at a time Monday to Friday between the hours of 1 am and 5 am through 1/22/2021 to facilitate bridge testing. Drivers are advised to use Macombs Dam Bridge as an alternate route.

Bronx

East 156 Street between Brook Avenue and Hegney Place

Eastbound traffic lane and south sidewalk will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 6 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 6 pm through 3/31/2021 to facilitate water main installation as part of the Filling of Five Bridges over the Abandoned CSX Line Project. Approximately 10 parking spaces will be eliminated. Westbound traffic lane and north sidewalk will be maintained at all times.

Brook Avenue between East 156 Street and East 157 Street

Approximately five parking spaces will be eliminated through 1/4/2021 to facilitate staging area for water main installation as part of the Filling of Five Bridges over the Abandoned CSX Line project.

Queens

Long Island Expressway between Queens Midtown Tunnel and City Line

Single-lane eastbound and westbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for wall restoration and maintenance until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Rehabilitation of I-678 (southbound) to the Belt Cross Island Parkway Bridge

Lanes will be reduced to one 11-foot travel lane Friday 12/4/2020 from 10 pm to 7 am next morning for Queens-bound Cross Island Parkway Exit 36S and Saturday 12/5/2020 from 12:01 am to 9 am for Bronx-bound I-678 Exit 16 to facilitate bridge rehabilitation.

Van Wyck Expressway under the Roosevelt Avenue Bridge

Single-lane in both directions will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 pm and additional lane will be closed from 11:59 pm to 5 am next morning. Single-lane in both directions will be closed Friday from 11 pm and additional lane will be closed from 1 am to 5 am Saturday morning. Closures are necessary to facilitate the Roosevelt Avenue Bridge rehabilitation through 12/12/2020. One travel lane in each direction will be maintained except for occasional full closure of 15 minutes between 2 am and 5 am.

Staten Island

Richmond Avenue Bridge over Richmond Creek

Southbound outer lane will be partially closed and the sidewalk closed Monday to Saturday from 7 am to 7 pm through 1/5/2021 to facilitate bridge painting.
