Check who operates bridges and tunnels

Permits for parades, block parties, major street fairs and other public street events are not issued by DOT, and are listed on the Citywide events calendar.

The City of New York's Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for this week providing the locations of road construction and events where lane and street closings will affect the flow of traffic. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Major road, lane and street closings for the coming week are as follows:

East River Bridge Crossings

Ed Koch/Queensboro Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound north inner roadway will be closed Saturday from 12:01 am to 7 am and Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning. Single-lane Queens-bound south inner roadway will be closed Saturday from 1 am to 7 am and Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5:30 am next morning. These lane closures are necessary to facilitate replacement of upper roadway.

Manhattan Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound lower roadway will be closed 24/7. South Upper Roadway will be fully closed Saturday from 1 am to 7 am and single-lane will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 am to 3 pm. These closures are necessary to facilitate bridge rehabilitation. During South Upper Roadway closure, lower roadway will be reversed to accommodate Brooklyn-bound traffic. Also, single-lane at a time will be closed on the upper or lower roadways Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and upper roadway Monday and Tuesday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning on North Upper Roadway and from 1 am to 5 am on South Upper Roadway to facilitate bridge maintenance.

Manhattan

Battery Park Underpass

North and south tube will be closed Sunday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning to restore electrical and mechanical systems damaged by Superstorm Sandy. Please use West Street for south tube detour and use South Street for north tube detour.

Henry Hudson Parkway (between George Washington Bridge and Henry Hudson Bridge)

One northbound lane will be closed weekdays from 9 am to 2 pm and 10 pm to 7 am, and weekends from 11 pm to 2 pm the next day. One southbound lane will be closed weekdays from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, 10 pm Friday night to 7 am Saturday, and 10 pm Saturday night to 2 pm Sunday. Two lanes either northbound or southbound will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, Saturday 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday 2 am to 9 am, to facilitate general repairs by MTA Bridges and Tunnels from May 14, 2018 to March 21, 2021.

Route 9A between Rector Street and Albany Street

Single-lane in both direction will be closed Monday to Thursday starting 10 pm then additional lane will be closed 12:01 am to 5 am next morning. Also, single-lane in both direction will be closed Friday and Saturday starting 9 pm then additional lane will be closed 1 am to 5 am next morning. These closures are necessary to facilitate removal of the Rector Street Pedestrian Bridge.

West 31 Street between 9 Avenue and Dyer Avenue

West 31 Street from mid-block to 9 Avenue will be closed and mid-block to Dyer Avenue will be converted to two-way traffic through 11/22/2020 with weekday working hours from 7 am to 6 pm to facilitate 31 Street bridge construction west of 9 Avenue viaduct.

Brooklyn

Union Street Bridge over the Gowanus Canal

Vehicular travel lane will be shifted to the north side of the bridge and south side of the bridge will be closed until May 2020 to facilitate bridge repairs. North sidewalk will be maintained.

Manhattan/Bronx

Macombs Dam Bridge

Single-lane at a time in either direction will be closed Tuesday from 10 am to 3 pm next morning to facilitate bridge maintenance.

University Heights Bridge (207 Street Bridge)

Single-lane will be closed on both directions Wednesday from 10 am to 3 pm to facilitate bridge maintenance.

Willis Avenue Bridge

Single-lane at a time will be closed Monday from 12:01 am to 5 am to facilitate bridge maintenance.

Bronx

East 156 Street Bridge between Brook Avenue and Hegney Place

There will be no curbside parking and south sidewalk will be closed beginning 3/16/2020 through 5/8/2020 to facilitate the ongoing reconstruction project on East 156 Street over the abandoned CSX line. Two-way traffic and north sidewalk will be maintained.

East 163 Street Bridge between Brook Avenue and Melrose Avenue

East 163 Street between Brook and Melrose Avenues as well as Brook Avenue between Food Bazar entrance and intersection of East 163 Street/Washington Avenue will be fully closed until 4/10/2020 as part of the Filling Five Bridges Over Abandoned CSX Line project.

Bruckner Expressway between RFK Bridge and Sheridan Expressway

Northbound single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 2 pm and from 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday from 11 pm to Saturday 3 pm, Saturday 11 pm to Sunday 3 pm, and Sunday 10 pm to Monday 5 am; Southbound single-lane will be closed Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm and from 10 pm to 5 am, Friday from 10 pm to Saturday 6:30 am, and Saturday from 10 pm to Sunday 2 pm; Double-lane will be closed in either direction Tuesday 1 am to Friday 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday 2 am to 9 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate deck replacement.

Kingsbridge Road under Grand Concourse

Eastbound lane of traffic will be closed Sunday to Friday from 10 pm to 6 am next morning and south underpass sidewalk will be closed 24/7 beginning 3/15/2020 for approximately six weeks to facilitate improvements. Eastbound Kingsbridge Road upper roadway, pedestrian access to the north underpass sidewalk, and access to Kingsbridge subway station will be maintained at all times.

Staten Island

Arthur Kill Road Bridge over Staten Island Rapid Transit

Bridge will be closed from 9 pm Saturday 3/14/2020 to 5 am next morning and 9 pm Tuesday 4/7/2020 to 5 am next morning to facilitate bridge rehabilitation. Motorists will be detoured via Richmond Valley Road to Page Avenue to Amboy Road to Barnard Avenue.
