Check who operates bridges and tunnels

Permits for parades, block parties, major street fairs and other public street events are not issued by DOT, and are listed on the Citywide events calendar.

The City of New York's Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for this week providing the locations of road construction and events where lane and street closings will affect the flow of traffic. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Major road, lane and street closings for the coming week are as follows:


East River Bridge Crossings

Ed Koch/Queensboro Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound north inner roadway will be closed Saturday from 12:01 am to 7 am and Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning. Single-lane Queens-bound south inner roadway will be closed Saturday from 1 am to 7 am and Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5:30 am next morning. These lane closures are necessary to facilitate replacement of upper roadway under Contract BRC-231F.

Manhattan Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound lower roadway will be closed 24/7. South Upper Roadway will be fully closed Saturday from 1 am to 7 am and Sunday from 1 am to 9 am, and single-lane will be closed Wednesday from 10 am to 3 pm. Single-lane will be closed North Upper Roadway Tuesday from 10 am to 3 pm. These closures are necessary to facilitate bridge rehabilitation under Contract BRC-156F. During South Upper Roadway closure, lower roadway will be reversed to accommodate Brooklyn-bound traffic.

Williamsburg Bridge

Single-lane will be closed from 10 am to 3 pm on Monday for Manhattan-bound inner roadway and Friday for Brooklyn-bound inner roadway to facilitate in-depth bridge inspection.

Manhattan

West 31 Street between 9 Avenue and Dyer Avenue

West 31 Street from mid-block to 9 Avenue will be closed and mid-block to Dyer Avenue will be converted to two-way traffic through 11/22/2020 with weekday working hours from 7 am to 6 pm to facilitate 31 Street bridge construction west of 9 Avenue viaduct.

Battery Park/West Street Underpasses

Both north and south tubes will be closed Sunday from 10 pm to 5 am to restore electrical and mechanical systems damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

Central Park 79 Street Transverse

The 79 Street Transverse (Transverse 2) through Central Park will be closed except for emergency vehicles on Saturday from 12:01 am to 6 pm to facilitate under-deck bridge inspection.

Henry Hudson Parkway (between George Washington Bridge and Henry Hudson Bridge)

One northbound lane will be closed weekdays from 9 am to 2 pm and 10 pm to 7 am, and weekends from 11 pm to 2 pm the next day. One southbound lane will be closed weekdays from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, 10 pm Friday night to 7 am Saturday, and 10 pm Saturday night to 2 pm Sunday. Two lanes either northbound or southbound will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, Saturday 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday 2 am to 9 am, to facilitate general repairs by MTA Bridges and Tunnels from May 14, 2018 to March 21, 2021.

Manhattan/Bronx

Washington Bridge over the Harlem River (181 Street)

Manhattan-bound center lane will be closed 24/7 and right Bronx-bound lane will be closed on weekdays from 5 am to 2 pm through 1/31/2020 to facilitate repairs. The bridge's south pedestrian walkway will also be closed during these hours.

Manhattan/Queens

Roosevelt Island Bridge over East Channel of the East River

Bridge will be closed intermittently for 15 minutes on Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm to facilitate routine monthly testing.

Bronx

East 156 Street Bridge between Brook Avenue and Ann's Avenue

East 156 Street Bridge between Brook Avenue and Hegney Place and the north sidewalk will be fully closed beginning 1/20/2020 until 3/27/2020 as part of the Filling Five Bridges Over Abandoned CSX Line project.

East 163 Street Bridge between Brook Avenue and Melrose Avenue

East 163 Street between Brook and Melrose Avenues will be fully closed and the south sidewalk near Brook Avenue will be closed beginning 12/11/2019 until 3/6/2020 as part of the Filling Five Bridges Over Abandoned CSX Line project.

Bruckner Expressway between RFK Bridge and Sheridan Expressway

Northbound single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 2 pm and from 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday from 11 pm to Saturday 3 pm, Saturday 11 pm to Sunday 3 pm, and Sunday 10 pm to Monday 5 am; Southbound single-lane will be closed Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm and from 10 pm to 5 am, Friday from 10 pm to Saturday 6:30 am, and Saturday from 10 pm to Sunday 2 pm; Double-lane will be closed in either direction Tuesday 1 am to Friday 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday 2 am to 9 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate deck replacement.

Hutchinson River Parkway between E. Tremont exit and Pelham Parkway on ramp to the southbound Hutchinson River Parkway

Double-lane will be closed in both directions weeknights from 12:01 am to 4 am to facilitate rehabilitation of the Westchester Avenue Bridge.

Hutchinson River Parkway Bridge

Southbound on the bridge will be closed Tuesday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning to facilitate bridge repairs.
