Check who operates bridges and tunnels

Permits for parades, block parties, major street fairs and other public street events are not issued by NYC DOT, and are listed on the Citywide events calendar.

The City of New York's Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for this week providing the locations of road construction and events where lane and street closings will affect the flow of traffic. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Major road, lane and street closings for the coming week are as follows:

East River Bridge Crossings

Ed Koch/Queensboro Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound north upper roadway will be closed 24/7 and double-lane will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 9:30 am to 3 pm, Tuesday to Thursday from 8 pm to 5 am, and Friday 8 pm to Saturday 2 pm. Additionally, Queens-bound south outer roadway will be closed Sunday to Saturday from 12 am to 6 am. These lane closures are necessary to facilitate replacement of upper roadway.

Brooklyn Bridge

Single-lane Brooklyn-bound will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 2 pm and 12:01 am to 6 am. Single-lane Ramp A will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am. Ramps D will be fully closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am. These closures are to facilitate bridge rehabilitation.

Manhattan Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound lower roadway will be closed 24/7. Single-lane Manhattan-bound north upper roadway will be closed Monday and Wednesday to Friday from 10 am to 8 pm, Tuesday from 10 am to 1 pm, and Monday to Friday from 8 pm to 5 am, to facilitate bridge structural strengthening.

Williamsburg Bridge

Single-lane Brooklyn-bound south outer roadway will be closed Saturday 5am to Monday 5 am, Monday and Wednesday to Friday from 5 am to 8 pm, Tuesday from 5 am to 1 pm, Monday to Friday from 8 pm to 5 am. Single-lane Brooklyn-bound south inner roadway will be closed Monday and Wednesday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm, Tuesday from 10 am to 1 pm, and Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate Structural Strengthening.

Manhattan

Battery Park Underpass (BPU) between Route 9A/West Street and FDR Drive

One tube in either direction will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning through December 30, 2022, to facilitate electrical, lighting, and fire-detection repairs.

FDR Drive in the vicinity of East 55 Street

Single-lane northbound and/or southbound will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5:30 am next morning, Saturday from 12:01 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 11 am. Double-lane northbound and/or southbound will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 1 am to 5 am, Saturday from 2 am to 6 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 7 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate building facade repairs and will continue through August 31, 2022.

FDR Drive Northbound between East 71 Street and East 73 Street

Single-lane northbound will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5:30 am next morning, Saturday from 12:01 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 7 am. Double-lane northbound will be closed Tuesday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning, Saturday from 1 am to 6 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 7 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate construction of the column foundation for the building on the east side of FDR Drive and will continue through October 1, 2022.

FDR Drive Southbound between East 73 St and East 71 Street

FDR Drive southbound service road between East 73 and East 71 Street, FDR Exit Ramp (Exit 13 South) in the vicinity of East 73 Street, and East 71 Street Entrance Ramp to Southbound FDR Drive will be closed Friday from 11 pm to 10 am next morning and Saturday from 11 pm to 11 am next morning, through September 28, 2022 to facilitate construction of the building column foundations.

Harlem River/FDR Drives in the vicinity of RFK Bridge

Single-lane both directions will be closed Monday to Friday from 10:30 pm to 5 am, Saturday from 12 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday from 12 am to 11 am through November 30, 2022, to facilitate concrete repair.

Rehabilitation of Riverside Drive Viaduct between West 153 Street and West 155 Street

Two northbound and one southbound lanes will be maintained on the west side. No left-turns from West 153 Street onto southbound Riverside Drive West. West sidewalk will be closed, and temporary pedestrian walkway will be provided on the east side. The SBS and BX6 bus stop and fare machine will be temporarily relocated to the south end of Riverside Drive West and West 155 Street. This new configuration will remain in effect until December 2022. One northbound lane will be maintained, and southbound traffic will be detoured through Broadway.

Route 9A/West Street between Canal Street and Clarkson Street

Single-lane in both direction will be closed Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Saturday from 12:01 am to 9 am, and Sunday from 12:01 am to 10 am. Double-lane will be closed in either direction Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 8 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 10 am. These closures are to facilitate pavement operation, which will continue through November 1, 2022. Triple-lane will be closed Saturday from 1 am to 8 am on Route 9A northbound for one night only.

Festivals, Parades and Events

6th Annual Disability Pride Parade

The following streets will be closed for the 6th Annual Disability Pride Parade on Friday September 30th through Sunday, October 2nd, 2022 (at the discretion of NYPD) in Manhattan.

The following streets will be closed for the Nigeria Independence Day Parade and Festival on Saturday October 1, 2022 (at the Discretion of NYPD) in Manhattan.

The following streets will be closed for the DOT Commissioner Back to School Car Free / Open Street Event on Saturday October 1, 2022 (at the discretion of NYPD) in Manhattan.

85th General Pulaski Day Parade

The following streets will be closed for the 85th General Pulaski Day Parade on Sunday October 2, 2022 (at the discretion of NYPD) in Manhattan.

Bronx/Manhattan

Broadway Bridge over the Harlem River

Single-lane Manhattan-bound and adjacent sidewalk will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm. Single-lane Bronx-bound will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm. Alternating double-lane in either direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm. At least one lane of traffic and one sidewalk will be accessible at all times. These closures are to facilitate electrical work.

Madison Avenue Bridge over Harlem River

Single-lane in both directions will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 pm to 6 am and Saturday from 10 pm to 7 am. Bridge will be fully closed Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 5 am. Bronx-bound will be closed Saturday from 12:01 am to 6 am and Manhattan-bound will be closed Saturday from 12:01 am to 7 am. In addition, single-lane in either direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm. These closures will continue through October 31, 2022 and are necessary to facilitate testing and rehabilitation. Motorists are advised to use 145 Street Bridge as an alternate route.

Robert F. Kennedy Bridge (RFK Bridge)

Single-lane in each direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 10:30 pm to 5 am next morning, Saturday from 12 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday from 12 am to 11 am on the FDR Drive/Harlem River Drive (HRD) in the vicinity of RFK Bridge. Also, Willis Avenue ramp from the FDR Drive/HRD northbound will partially be closed during these times. These closures will continue through June 1, 2023 to facilitate New Pedestrian Walkway and Fender Rehabilitation.

University Heights Bridge (207 Street)

Single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning to facilitate repairs and bridge will be fully closed between 1 am and 5 am, for one hour at a time, to facilitate testing. These closures begins on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 and will continue through December 30, 2022. Motorists are advised to use Macombs Dam Bridge as an alternate route.

Bronx

East 174 Street Bridge

Bridge will be closed between September 19, 2022 and October 28, 2022, Monday to Saturday from 10 pm to 5 am for one night only to facilitate repairs. Motorists are advised to use East Tremont Avenue or Westchester Avenue as an alternate route.

East 175 Street Bridge over Metro North Railroad

Intersection of Park Avenue northbound and East 175 Street will be closed Friday, September 30, 2022, 9 pm through Monday, October 3, 2022, 5 am to facilitate bridge rehabilitation.

Major Deegan Expressway (northbound) between Exit 3 and Entrance ramp north of East 138 Street

Right-lane will become an exit only lane at Exit 3 24/7. Additional lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am, Saturday and Sunday from 1 am to 8 am, and Sunday night from 10 pm to 5 am next morning through March 3, 2025 to facilitate East 138 Street Bridge replacement. Full closure may occur Monday to Friday between 12 am and 5 am for demolition and erection of the superstructure.

Major Deegan Expressway (southbound) between Exit 3 and Entrance ramp south of East 138 Street

Right-lane will become an exit only lane at Exit 3 24/7. Additional lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am, Saturday and Sunday from 1 am to 8 am, and Sunday night from 10 pm to 5 am next morning through March 3, 2025 to facilitate East 138 Street Bridge replacement. Southbound exit ramp to 138 Street bridge will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am, Friday from 11 pm to 6 am next morning, Saturday from 11 pm to 9 am next morning, and Sunday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning to facilitate water main connections.

Major Deegan Expressway (vicinity of West Fordham Road on-ramp to southbound Major Deegan Expressway)

Single-lane and right shoulder will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm and 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday 10 pm to 10 am next morning, and Saturday 10 pm to 12 pm next day, through September 24, 2022, to facilitate Electric Fault Repair.

Pelham Bay Bridge

Single-lane northbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 9 am. Single-lane in both directions will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 1 pm and 10 pm to 7 am next morning. These closures are necessary to facilitate structure repair and will continue through December 31, 2022.

Rehabilitation of the Westchester Avenue Bridge

Hutchinson River Parkway northbound between Exit 1B (East Tremont Avenue/Westchester Avenue) and entrance ramp from Hutchinson River Parkway East, and southbound between Exit 3E (Pelham Parkway) and entrance ramp from Westchester Avenue will be closed to facilitate steel girder removal and will continue through October 7, 2022. Single-lane in both directions will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning and will be fully closed from 12:30 am to 4 am.

Shore Road Bridge over the Harlem River

Northbound lanes will be closed Tuesday from 11 pm to 5 am to facilitate maintenance. Single-lane in each direction will be maintained on the southbound lanes.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn-Queens Expressway between Atlantic Avenue and Cadman Plaza

Single-lane Staten Island-bound will be closed Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 5 am through October 7, 2022, to facilitate maintenance.

Brooklyn-Queens Expressway Queens-bound between Washington Street and Pearl Street

Queens-bound shoulder will be closed through October 17, 2022 to facilitate conduit installation.

Third Street Bridge over the Gowanus Canal

Bridge will be fully closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning, starting Tuesday September 6, 2022, through October 28, 2022 to facilitate bridge maintenance. Union Street Bridge or Ninth Street Bridge may be used as an alternate route.

Union Street Bridge over the Gowanus Canal

Parking lane and adjacent sidewalk on either side will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 4 pm through November 30, 2022, to facilitate sidewalk replacement.

Festivals, Parades and Events

Ragamuffin Parade and Festival

The following streets will be closed for the Ragamuffin Parade and Festival on Saturday October 1, 2022 (at the discretion of NYPD) in Brooklyn.

The following streets will be closed for the 46th Annual Atlantic Antic on Sunday October 2, 2022 (at the discretion of NYPD) in Brooklyn.

  • Boreum Place between Atlantic Avenue and State Street

Queens

Grand Central Parkway in the vicinity of LaGuardia Airport

Double-lane will be closed Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 5 am, Friday from 10 pm to 7 am, Saturday from 11 pm to 9 am, and Sunday from 10 pm to 5 am for westbound. Double-lane will be closed Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 6 am, Friday from 10 pm to 8 am, Saturday from 10 pm to 10 am, and Sunday from 10 pm to 5 am for eastbound. These closures are to facilitate demolition of the flyover and will continue through November 15, 2022.

Van Wyck Expressway

Single-lane in both directions will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm, Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 6 am, Friday from 11:59 pm to 8 am, Saturday from 11 pm to 10 am, and Sunday from 10 pm to 6 am. Double-lane in both directions will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 4 am and Sunday from 1 am to 7 am. Double-lane will be closed Friday from 11 pm to 7 am for northbound and from 11 pm to 5 am for southbound. Also, the exit and entrance ramps along the north and southbound of the expressway may also be closed. These closures will continue through July 2025 and are necessary to facilitate roadway widening.
