Check who operates bridges and tunnels

Permits for parades, block parties, major street fairs and other public street events are not issued by DOT, and are listed on the Citywide events calendar.

The City of New York's Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for this week providing the locations of road construction and events where lane and street closings will affect the flow of traffic. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Major road, lane and street closings for the coming week are as follows:

East River Bridge Crossings

Ed Koch/Queensboro Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound north inner roadway will be closed Saturday 12:01 am to 7 am and Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning. Single-lane Queens-bound south inner roadway will be closed Saturday from 1 am to 7 am and Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5:30 am next morning. These lane closures are necessary to facilitate replacement of upper roadway.

Manhattan Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound lower roadway will be closed 24/7. Single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm. These closures are necessary to facilitate bridge rehabilitation. During South Upper Roadway closure, lower roadway will be reversed to accommodate Brooklyn-bound traffic.

Manhattan

Henry Hudson Parkway (between George Washington Bridge and Henry Hudson Bridge)

One northbound lane will be closed weekdays from 9 am to 2 pm and 10 pm to 7 am, and weekends from 11 pm to 2 pm the next day. One southbound lane will be closed weekdays from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, 10 pm Friday night to 7 am Saturday, and 10 pm Saturday night to 2 pm Sunday. Two lanes either northbound or southbound will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, Saturday 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday 2 am to 9 am, to facilitate general repairs by MTA Bridges and Tunnels from May 14, 2018 to March 21, 2021.

Henry Hudson Parkway between 70 Street and 84 Street

Two lanes will be closed from 11 pm to 6 am next morning then one lane will remain closed until 7 am on the northbound and one lane will be closed from 9 pm to 10 pm then two lanes will be closed from 10 pm to 5 am next morning on the southbound Monday to Friday to facilitate rehabilitation of the parkway viaduct.

West 31 Street between 9 Avenue and Dyer Avenue

West 31 Street from mid-block to 9 Avenue will be closed and mid-block to Dyer Avenue will be converted to two-way traffic through 11/22/2020 with weekday working hours from 7 am to 6 pm to facilitate 31 Street bridge construction west of 9 Avenue viaduct.

Route 9A between West 34 Street and West 39 Street

Northbound curb lane and one adjacent lane will be closed to facilitate Javit Center Emergency Hospital until end of COVID-19 Emergency.

Route 9A between Battery Place and West 59 Street

Double-lane northbound and southbound will be closed daily from 8 am to 4:30 pm and nightly Sunday nights through Friday mornings from 10 pm to 6 am by NY State DOT for pavement restoration until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Southbound Route 9A (between the Rector Street Alignment and Battery Place)

Two out of four southbound lanes will be closed on Saturday, August 1, 2020 and Sunday, August 2, 2020 from 10 am to 4 pm to facilitate the demolition for the replacement of a tidal gate manhole by NYCDEP.

Southbound Route 9A (between the Rector Street Alignment and Battery Place)

Two out of four southbound lanes will be closed Monday Nights to Friday Mornings from August 3, 2020 to August 14, 2020 from 10 pm to 5 am to facilitate the replacement of a tidal gate manhole by NYCDEP.

Frankfort Street between Pearl Street and Gold Street

This street will be reduced to only single-lane in each direction until further notice to facilitate rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Bridge's approach arches.

Park Avenue between East 38 Street and East 40 Street

Left lane in both directions will be closed through 8/11/2020 to facilitate rehabilitation work. Parking lanes will become travel lanes to maintained two lanes of traffic in both directions.

First Avenue Tunnel at the United Nations

One tube at a time will be closed Wednesday from 11 pm to 6 am next morning to facilitate maintenance. One tube will remain open at all times.

Brooklyn/Queens

Grand Street Bridge over Newtown Creek

Bridge will be closed nightly, Sunday to Thursday, from 10 pm to 5 am next morning and Saturdays from 7 am to 3 pm through 8/29/2020 to facilitate bridge maintenance. Drivers are advised to use Metropolitan Avenue as an alternate route.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn-Queens Expressway between Metropolitan Avenue and Gowanus Expressway

Single-lane in either direction will be closed nightly Sunday nights through Friday mornings from 11 pm to 6 am by NY State DOT for pavement restoration until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Component Rehabilitation of Ten Bridges City Wide

Northbound right lane will be closed on Knapp Street Bridge over the Belt Shore Parkway Monday to Friday from 9 pm to 5 am next morning beginning 7/27/2020. Also, two eastbound right lanes will be closed on the Belt Shore Parkway under the Knapp Street Bridge Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 5 am beginning 8/3/2020. These closures are necessary to facilitate rehabilitation of the Knapp Street Bridge and will continue through 9/11/2020.

Third Street Bridge over the Gowanus Canal

Bridge will be closed Saturdays from 7 am to 3 pm through 8/15/2020 to facilitate bridge maintenance. Drivers are advised to use Ninth Street as an alternate route.

Hamilton Avenue Bridge over the Gowanus Canal

Manhattan-bound lanes will be closed Sunday from 7 am to 2 pm to facilitate bridge repairs. All traffic will be shifted to the Staten Island-bound side with two lanes in each direction.

Prospect Expressway between Gowanus Expressway and Fort Hamilton Parkway

Single-lane in either direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for wall restoration and maintenance until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Eastbound Rockaway Boulevard between Porter Road and Farmers Boulevard

Single-lane eastbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for soil borings until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Eastbound Rockaway Boulevard between Farmers Boulevard and 146 Road

Double-lane eastbound will be closed from 10 am to 2 pm then single-lane will remain closed until 3 pm Monday to Friday by NY State DOT for soil borings until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Manhattan/Bronx

Third Avenue Bridge over the Harlem River

Bridge will be closed Wednesday from 1 am to 4 am to facilitate bridge testing. Drivers are advised to use other Harlem River crossing bridges such as Madison Avenue Bridge.

Bronx

Hutchinson River Parkway between East Tremont exit ramp and Pelham Parkway on ramp to southbound Hutchinson River Parkway

Lane closures on the Hutchinson River Parkway under the Westchester Avenue Bridge will take place Monday to Friday in both directions through 8/28/2020. Single-lane will be closed from 10 pm to 5 am next morning and double-lane will be closed from 12:01 am to 4 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate Westchester Avenue Bridge rehabilitation.

Westchester Avenue between Waters Place and Ericson Place

Single-lane will be closed westbound on weekdays from 9 pm to 6 am next morning through 8/26/2020 to facilitate Westchester Avenue Bridge repairs.

Kingsbridge Road under Grand Concourse

Eastbound traffic lane of the underpass and south walkway will be closed Sunday to Friday from 10 pm to 6 am next morning to facilitate improvements through July and August 2020. Eastbound upper roadway will be maintained at all times.

Queens

Nassau Expressway between North Hangar Road and Porter Road

Single-lane eastbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for soil borings until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Long Island Expressway between Queens Midtown Tunnel and City Line

Single-lane eastbound and westbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for wall restoration and maintenance until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.
