Check who operates bridges and tunnels

Permits for parades, block parties, major street fairs and other public street events are not issued by DOT, and are listed on the Citywide events calendar.

The City of New York's Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for this week providing the locations of road construction and events where lane and street closings will affect the flow of traffic. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Major road, lane and street closings for the coming week are as follows:

East River Bridge Crossings

Ed Koch/Queensboro Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound north inner roadway will be closed Saturday from 12:01 am to 7 am, Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm, and Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning. Single-lane Queens-bound south inner roadway will be closed Saturday from 1 am to 7 am, Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm, and Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5:30 am next morning. These lane closures are necessary to facilitate replacement of upper roadway.

Manhattan Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound lower roadway will be closed 24/7. Single-lane will be closed from 10 am to 3 pm Tuesday and Wednesday on south upper roadway. These closures are necessary to facilitate bridge rehabilitation. During South Upper Roadway closure, lower roadway will be reversed to accommodate Brooklyn-bound traffic.

Manhattan

Henry Hudson Parkway (between George Washington Bridge and Henry Hudson Bridge)

One northbound lane will be closed weekdays from 9 am to 2 pm and 10 pm to 7 am, and weekends from 11 pm to 2 pm the next day. One southbound lane will be closed weekdays from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, 10 pm Friday night to 7 am Saturday, and 10 pm Saturday night to 2 pm Sunday. Two lanes either northbound or southbound will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am, Saturday 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday 2 am to 9 am, to facilitate general repairs by MTA Bridges and Tunnels from May 14, 2018 to March 21, 2021

West 31 Street between 9 Avenue and Dyer Avenue

West 31 Street from mid-block to 9 Avenue will be closed and mid-block to Dyer Avenue will be converted to two-way traffic through 11/22/2020 with weekday working hours from 7 am to 6 pm to facilitate 31 Street bridge construction west of 9 Avenue viaduct.

Route 9A between West 14 Street and West 24 Street

Single-lane southbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 pm to 5 am next morning, Saturday from 12:01 am to 9 am, and Sunday from 12:01 am to 10 am. Additional lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 5 am next morning, Saturday from 1 am to 6 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 8 am to facilitate Pier 57 rehabilitation.

Route 9A between West 34 Street and West 39 Street

Northbound curb lane and one adjacent lane will be closed to facilitate Javit Center Emergency Hospital until end of COVID-19 Emergency

Route 9A between Battery Place and West 59 Street

Double-lane northbound and southbound will be closed daily from 8 am to 4:30 pm and nightly Sunday nights through Friday mornings from 10 pm to 6 am by NY State DOT for pavement restoration until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Battery Park Underpass

North or South Tube will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 pm to 5 am and Saturday from 1 am to 8 am through 6/30/2020 to restore electrical and mechanical systems damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

Park Avenue Tunnel

Park Avenue Tunnel will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm through 6/2/2020 to facilitate ongoing rehabilitation project. Two northbound lanes on Park Avenue will be open to traffic at all times.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn-Queens Expressway between Metropolitan Avenue and Gowanus Expressway

Single-lane in either direction will be closed nightly Sunday nights through Friday mornings from 11 pm to 6 am by NY State DOT for pavement restoration until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Prospect Expressway between Gowanus Expressway and Fort Hamilton Parkway

Single-lane in either direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for wall restoration and maintenance until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Eastbound Rockaway Boulevard between Porter Road and Farmers Boulevard

Single-lane eastbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for soil borings until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Eastbound Rockaway Boulevard between Farmers Boulevard and 146 Road

Double-lane eastbound will be closed from 10 am to 2 pm then single-lane will remain closed until 3 pm Monday to Friday by NY State DOT for soil borings until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Bronx

Bruckner Expressway between RFK Bridge and Sheridan Expressway

Northbound single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 2 pm and from 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday from 11 pm to Saturday 3 pm, Saturday 11 pm to Sunday 3 pm, and Sunday 10 pm to Monday 5 am; Southbound single-lane will be closed Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm and from 10 pm to 5 am, Friday from 10 pm to Saturday 6:30 am, and Saturday from 10 pm to Sunday 2 pm; Double-lane will be closed in either direction Tuesday 1 am to Friday 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday 2 am to 9 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate deck replacement.

Hutchinson River Parkway between East Tremont exit and Pelham Parkway on-ramp to the Hutchinson River Parkway southbound

Single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning with double-lane closing from 12:01 am to 4 am in both directions through 6/26/2020 to facilitate rehabilitation of the Westchester Avenue Bridge. At least one traveling lane in each direction will be maintained at all times.

Kingsbridge Road under Grand Concourse

Eastbound lane of traffic will be closed Sunday to Friday from 10 pm to 6 am next morning and south underpass sidewalk will be closed 24/7 beginning 3/15/2020 for approximately six weeks to facilitate improvements. Eastbound Kingsbridge Road upper roadway, pedestrian access to the north underpass sidewalk, and access to Kingsbridge subway station will be maintained at all times.

Queens

Nassau Expressway between North Hangar Road and Porter Road

Single-lane eastbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for soil borings until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Long Island Expressway between Queens Midtown Tunnel and City Line

Single-lane eastbound and westbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for wall restoration and maintenance until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Roosevelt Avenue Bridge between 126 Street and Janet Place

Eastbound will be closed Tuesday to Saturday from 12:01 am to 5 am to facilitate bridge rehabilitation. Eastbound motorists are advised to use detour route via Northern Boulevard.

Van Wyck Expressway between Northern Boulevard and Long Island Expressway

Single-lane will be closed in both directions Tuesday to Friday from 9:30 am to 2 pm. Double-lane will be closed in both directions Tuesday to Thursday from 12:01 am to 5 am and on Saturday from 1 am to 5 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate rehabilitation of the Roosevelt Avenue Bridge and will continue through 5/30/2020. At least one lane in both directions will be maintained at all times except for occasional full closures for maximum of 15 minutes between the hours of 2 am and 5 am.

Staten Island

Page Avenue Bridge

Single-lane at a time in either direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm through 7/13/2020 to facilitate painting operations on the bridge..
