Check who operates bridges and tunnels

Permits for parades, block parties, major street fairs and other public street events are not issued by NYC DOT, and are listed on the Citywide events calendar.

The City of New York's Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for this week providing the locations of road construction and events where lane and street closings will affect the flow of traffic. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Major road, lane and street closings for the coming week are as follows:

East River Bridge Crossings

Manhattan Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound lower roadway will be closed 24/7 through September 2021. The bike path and pedestrian path will continue to be narrowed at the towers. At least one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times.

Williamsburg Bridge

Single-lane closed on either inner roadway (Manhattan or Brooklyn-bound) will be necessary from Monday, September 14 to Friday, September 17 between 10 am and 3 pm each day. Only one lane at a time will be closed. All other lanes will remain open during work hours.

Manhattan

Route 9A between West 34 Street and West 39 Street

Northbound curb lane and one adjacent lane will be closed on an as needs basis to facilitate Javits Center Emergency Hospital until end of COVID-19 Emergency.

Route 9A between Battery Place and West 59 Street

Double-lane northbound and southbound will be closed daily from 8 am to 4:30 pm and nightly Sunday nights through Friday mornings from 10 pm to 6 am by NY State DOT for pavement restoration until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Henry Hudson Parkway between West 72 Street and West 125 Street

Single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm for northbound and from 10 am to 3 pm for southbound through 9/30/2021 to facilitate drainage system inspection.

New York Fashion Week

The following streets will be closed Sunday, September 5 to Monday, September 13, 2021 for the New York Fashion Week at the discretion of the NYPD.

9-11 Ceremony

The following streets will be closed Saturday, September 11, 2021 for the 9-11 Ceremony at the discretion of the NYPD.

FDNY 9-11 Memorial

The following streets will be closed on Saturday, September 11, 2021 for the FDNY 9-11 Memorial at the discretion of the NYPD.

20th Anniversary of 9-11 Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral

The following streets will be closed on Saturday, September 11, 2021 for the 20th Anniversary of 9-11 Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at the discretion of the NYPD.

NYRR 5th Avenue Mile

The following streets will be closed on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 2 am to 3 pm for the NYRR 5th Avenue Mile for full street closure.

The following streets will be closed on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 10 am to 6 pm for the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce 3rd Ave Community Benefit Festival for full street closure.

The following streets will be closed Tuesday, September 14, 2021 to Thursday, September 30, 2021 for the UN General Assembly at the discretion of NYPD and Homeland Security.

The following streets will be closed Monday, September 13 to Monday, September 27, 2021 for the San Gennaro Feast for full street closure.

Brooklyn/Queens

Pulaski Bridge over Newtown Creek

Single-lane in both direction will be closed Saturdays and Sundays from 7 am to 2 pm through 9/26/2021 to facilitate bridge maintenance.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn-Queens Expressway between Metropolitan Avenue and Gowanus Expressway

Single-lane in either direction will be closed nightly Sunday nights through Friday mornings from 11 pm to 6 am by NY State DOT for pavement restoration until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

Prospect Expressway between Gowanus Expressway and Fort Hamilton Parkway

Single-lane in either direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for wall restoration and maintenance until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

MTV Video Music Awards

The following streets will be closed for the MTV Video Music Awards at the discretion of the NYPD.

Bronx/Manhattan

Broadway Bridge over the Harlem River

Bronx-bound right-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm and center-lane will be closed from 10 am to 2 pm to facilitate electrical work on the bridge.

University Heights Bridge over the Harlem River (207th Street)

Starting on Saturday August 28, 2021 Single and double lanes closures will be in effect where one lane Bronx/Manhattan bond will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3 pm and two lanes closed Monday night from 10 pm to 6 am, and Saturday and Sunday closures will be from 12 am to 5 am. At least one lane in each direction will remain open. The partial sidewalk closure is still in effect. These closures will continue until approximately September 27, 2021.

Washington Bridge over the Harlem River (181 Street)

Bronx-bound left and center lanes will be closed 24/7 through 9/30/2021 to facilitate bridge repair. Manhattan-bound left lane will remain a counter-flow to service Bronx-bound. Two lanes in each direction will be maintained at all times.

Bronx

East 169 Street Bridge over Metro North

Roadway will be partially closed and approximately six parking spaces will be removed on the south side of the bridge through December 2021 to facilitate bridge rehabilitation. Traffic will be shifted to the north side of the bridge and north sidewalk will remain open.

Grand Concourse Bridge over Metro-North Railroad - Hudson Line between East 151 Street and East 153 Street

East 151 Street will be reduced to one lane with two-way traffic assisted by flaggers. Crosswalk will be closed. Approximately three parking spaces will be eliminated from northbound and southbound Grand Concourse. These closures will take place Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 am to 3:30 pm to conduct test pits.

Hutchinson River Parkway Northbound between Exit 1B East Tremont/Westchester Avenue and Northbound entrance ramp from Hutchinson River Parkway East

Northbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 4 am through 9/17/2021 to facilitate Westchester Avenue Bridge rehabilitation. Drivers are advised to use Exit 1B East Tremont/Westchester Avenue as an alternative route.

Queens

Cross Island Parkway under Throgs Neck Bridge

Single-lane will be closed both direction and service road between Exit 32 and Exit 35 Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am next morning through 12/31/2021 to facilitate bridge inspection.

Grand Central Parkway between Francis Lewis Boulevard and 188 Street

Eastbound single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm and from 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday 11 pm to 7 am next morning, Saturday 10 am to 3 pm and 11 pm to 3 pm next day. Eastbound double-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 1 am to 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 7 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 9 am. Westbound single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday 10 pm to 6 am next morning, Saturday 10 am to 3 pm and from 10 pm to 3 pm next day. These closures will continue through 10/24/2021 to facilitate safety improvements.

Long Island Expressway between Queens Midtown Tunnel and City Line

Single-lane eastbound and westbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm by NY State DOT for wall restoration and maintenance until the COVID-19 Emergency is lifted.

US Open

The following streets will be closed from Monday, August 30 to Sunday, September 12, 2021 for the US Open at the discretion of the NYPD.

Richmond Avenue Bridge over Richmond Creek

Double-lane at a time in either direction will be closed weeknights from 11 pm to 5 am next morning, through 9/17/2021 to facilitate maintenance.

Arthur Kill Road Bridge over Staten Island Rapid Transit

A complete closure of the Arthur Kill Road Bridge beginning on Friday evening, September 10 at 9 pm. through Saturday morning, September 11 at 5 am. Motorists will be detoured via Richmond Valley Road to Page Avenue to Amboy Road to Barnard Avenue.
