Check who operates bridges and tunnels

Permits for parades, block parties, major street fairs and other public street events are not issued by NYC DOT, and are listed on the Citywide events calendar.

The City of New York's Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for this week providing the locations of road construction and events where lane and street closings will affect the flow of traffic. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Major road, lane and street closings for the coming week are as follows:

East River Bridge Crossings

Ed Koch/Queensboro Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound north upper roadway will be closed 24/7 and double-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 3 pm, Monday to Thursday from 8 pm to 5 am next morning, and Friday from 8 pm to Saturday 2 pm. Additionally, Queens-bound south outer roadway will be closed Sunday to Saturday from 1 am to 6 am.  These lane closures are necessary to facilitate replacement of upper roadway.

Manhattan Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound lower roadway will be closed 24/7. Single-lane Brooklyn-bound south upper roadway will be closed Saturday from 1 am to 5 am. Single-lane Manhattan-bound north upper roadway will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 8 pm and Friday from 10 am to Saturday 1 am to facilitate bridge structural strengthening. Also, single-lane at a time on upper and lower roadways will be closed Friday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning to facilitate bridge maintenance.

Williamsburg Bridge

Manhattan-bound north outer and inner roadway will be closed Monday to Thursday from 8 pm to 5 am next morning to facilitate Structural Strengthening.

Manhattan

East 125 Street southbound on-ramp to FDR Drive

Ramp will be fully closed Monday to Friday from 12 am to 5 am, Saturday from 12 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 11 am through June 17, 2022 to facilitate repairs at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge.

FDR Drive in the vicinity of East 55 Street

Single-lane northbound and/or southbound will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5:30 am next morning, Saturday from 12:01 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 11 am. Double-lane northbound and/or southbound will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 1 am to 5 am, Saturday from 2 am to 6 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 7 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate building facade repairs and will continue through August 31, 2022.

FDR Drive Northbound between East 71 Street and East 73 Street

Single-lane northbound will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5:30 am next morning, Saturday from 12:01 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 7 am. Double-lane northbound will be closed Tuesday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning, Saturday from 1 am to 6 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 7 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate construction of the column foundation for the building on the east side of FDR Drive and will continue through October 1, 2022.

Harlem River Drive in vicinity of Park Avenue Viaduct

Single-lane southbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 12 am to 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 9 am. Single-lane northbound will be closed Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm and 11 pm to 6 am next morning, Friday 9 am to 2 pm and 11 pm to 2 pm next day, and Saturday from 11 pm to 2 pm next day. Double-lane northbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 9 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate bridge inspection and will continue through June 15, 2022.

Rehabilitation of Riverside Drive Viaduct between West 155 Street and West 161 Street

On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, between 7 am to 12 pm, one northbound lane will be closed. Two northbound and one southbound lanes will be maintained on the west side. No left-turns from West 153 Street onto southbound Riverside Drive West. West sidewalk will be closed and temporary pedestrian walkway will be provided on the east side. The SBS and BX6 bus stop and fare machine will be temporarily relocated to the south end of Riverside Drive West and West 155 Street. This new configuration will remain in effect until December 2022.

West 158 Street Ramp to Henry Hudson Parkway Northbound

Ramp will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 1 pm through July 22, 2022, to facilitate barricade removal and installation.

Japan Parade

The following streets will be fully closed for the Japan Parade on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the discretion of NYPD in Manhattan.

Pulaski Bridge over Newtown Creek

Single-lane southbound and double-lane northbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 pm to 5 am through May, 2022 to facilitate bridge maintenance. At least one lane in each direction will be maintained at all times.

Brooklyn

Third Street Bridge over the Gowanus Canal

Bridge will be closed Sunday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning through May 27, 2022, to facilitate bridge maintenance. Detour signs for Union Street and 9 Street will be provided.

Festivals, Parades and Events

Fabulous 5th Avenue Festival

The following streets will be fully closed for the Fabulous 5th Avenue Festival on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 10 am at the discretion of NYPD in Brooklyn.

68th Annual Norwegian Day Parade

The following streets will be fully closed for the 68th Annual Norwegian Day Parade on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 10 am at the discretion of NYPD in Brooklyn.

Broadway Bridge over the Harlem River

Bronx-bound single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm. Manhattan-bound single-lane and adjacent sidewalk will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm and double-lane will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 10 am to 2 pm. These closures are necessary to facilitate electrical work on the bridge.

Madison Avenue Bridge over Harlem River

Bridge will be fully closed Friday and Saturday from 12:01 am to 5 am through May 14, 2022, to facilitate bridge rehabilitation. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to use the 145 Street Bridge as an alternate route.

University Heights Bridge (207 Street)

Single-lane in each direction will be closed from 11 pm to 5 am next morning on May 16, 17, 18, 24, 25, and 26 to facilitate bridge maintenance. One lane in each direction will remain open at all times.

Washington Bridge over the Harlem River (181st Street)

Single-lane southbound Major Deegan Expressway Exit 7 will be closed overnight and the ramp connecting the Cross Bronx Expressway and Major Deegan Expressway will be fully closed Monday to Friday from 10 pm to 5 am through May 13, 2022 to facilitate the removal of the temporary work platform under the bridge. Also, Bronx-bound right and center lane on the Washington Bridge will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 pm to 5 am through May 31, 2022 to facilitate the removal of the underdeck shield.

Bronx

Major Deegan Expressway (northbound) between Exit 3 and Entrance ramp north of East 138 Street

Right-lane will become an exit only lane at Exit 3 24/7. Additional lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am, Saturday and Sunday from 1 am to 8 am, and Sunday night from 10 pm to 5 am next morning through 3/3/2025 to facilitate East 138 Street Bridge replacement. Full closure may occur Monday to Friday between 12 am and 5 am for demolition and erection of the superstructure.

Major Deegan Expressway (southbound) between Exit 3 and Entrance ramp south of East 138 Street

Right-lane will become an exit only lane at Exit 3 24/7. Additional lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am, Saturday and Sunday from 1 am to 8 am, and Sunday night from 10 pm to 5 am next morning through 3/3/2025 to facilitate East 138 Street Bridge replacement. Southbound exit ramp to 138 Street bridge will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am, Friday from 11 pm to 6 am next morning, Saturday from 11 pm to 9 am next morning, and Sunday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning to facilitate water main connections.

Pelham Bay Bridge

Single-lane northbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 am to 9 am. Single-lane in both direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 am to 1 pm and from 10 pm to 7 am next morning. These closures are necessary to facilitate structure repairs to the trusses under deck and will continue through September 3, 2022.

Rehabilitation of East 169, East 175, and East 180 Street Bridges

Northeast corner of East 169 Street and Park Avenue northbound will be closed and approximately three parking spaces will be removed through August 2022 to facilitate rehabilitation of the East 169 Street bridge over the Metro North Railroad.

Rehabilitation of the Westchester Avenue Bridge

Single-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning and double-lane will be closed from 12:01 am to 4 am on the Hutchinson River Parkway in both directions between East Tremont Exit to Pelham Parkway On-Ramp, which will continue through May 27, 2022. Single-lane westbound on Westchester Avenue between Waters Place and Ericson Place will be closed Monday to Friday from 9 pm to 6 am next morning, which will continue through May 27, 2022. One westbound and two eastbound lanes will remain open at all times.

Bronx Week Food and Arts Festival and Unity Parade

The following streets will be fully closed for the Bronx Week Food and Arts Festival and Unity Parade on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at the discretion of NYPD in Bronx

Single-lane eastbound on the Long Island Expressway and eastbound Horace Harding Expressway will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm and 11 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday 11 pm to Saturday 7 am, and Saturday 11 pm to Sunday 11 am; double-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 1 am to 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 7 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 9 am. Single-lane westbound on the Long Island Expressway and westbound Horace Harding Expressway will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 11 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday 10 pm to Saturday 6 am, and Saturday 10 pm to Sunday 11 am; double-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 1 am to 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 6 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 9 am. These closures will continue through September 30, 2024 to facilitate Bridge Replacement and Mobility Improvement project.

Whitestone Expressway Service Road between 25 Avenue and 14 Avenue

Exit ramp from Whitestone Expressway northbound to 20 Avenue (Exit 15) will be partially closed through August 31, 2022 to facilitate the construction of Storm and Sanitary Sewers along the service road. Eleven-foot wide lane will be maintained for vehicular access at all times.
