NYC DOT Commissioner And S.I. Elected Official Announce Service Resumes For Staten Island Ferry

First ferry departs from St. George since Hurricane Sandy

NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan today announced that Staten Island Ferry service resumed at noon on Friday, Nov. 2., after around-the-clock efforts to repair damage related to Hurricane Sandy. The Staten Island ferryboat Sen. John J. Marchi departed from the St. George terminal at noon, followed by half-hourly service in both directions for the remainder of the afternoon, with regular service on Saturday, Nov. 3 and with augmented service scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 4 for the ING NYC Marathon. The Commissioner was joined by Council Member Debi Rose at the St. George terminal for the first ferry departing since the storm.

“With crews working nonstop to get ferry service up and running, Staten Islanders can now show that the hurricane cannot take the wind out of this borough’s sails,” said Commissioner Sadik-Khan. “The return of Staten Island Ferry service provides a critical transportation and economic link for Staten Islanders.”
