NYC DOT to Resurface Additional Portions of The FDR Drive as Citywide Seasonal Pothole Repair Efforts Continue

Two southbound lanes will be closed between East 49th Street and the United Nations underpass Sunday evening, with closure of the exit ramp at East 49th Street; motorists are advised to use alternate routes

Targeted stretches to be milled and paved in one night, reducing impacts on drivers and providing safer, smoother travel as DOT addresses roadways this winter

As the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) continues to address roadways across the five boroughs during the active winter season, crews will be resurfacing a key portion of southbound FDR Drive tomorrow evening, providing a safer, smoother roadway for Manhattan drivers. Tomorrow evening, Sunday, February 16, two of three southbound lanes will be closed between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Monday, February 17. This partial closure will allow for a targeted resurfacing of areas requiring maintenance, including both milling and paving in only one evening, eliminating rough roadways for drivers and speeding the reopening of this stretch of the FDR. During this project, motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible and use alternate routes.

This marks the latest overnight maintenance effort along city highway. This resurfacing is the latest effort as DOT roadway crews continue their seasonal pothole and street maintenance work as part of the response to this season’s heavy snow. Already this year, DOT has addressed more than 84,000 potholes across the city, including more than 12,500 in Manhattan. For more information about DOT’s ongoing efforts to address potholes and maintain more than 6,000 miles of roadway, please visit www.nyc.gov/dot, and please report any pothole condition to The Daily Pothole or to 311.
