MAYOR RUDOLPH W. GIULIANI UNVEILS DESIGN OF NEW
HOME FOR JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER AND ANNOUNCES
LAUNCH OF $103 MILLION CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

Next Step in Bringing Jazz at Lincoln Center to Columbus Circle Hall

To Be Named after Philanthropist and Business Executive, Frederick P. Rose

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today participated in a ceremony to unveil the design for Jazz at Lincoln Center's new home in Columbus Circle and to announce the launch of $103 million capital campaign. The unveiling of the design for Frederick P. Rose Hall is the next step in a process which began two years ago when Mayor Giuliani announced that projected plans for the New York Coliseum site would include Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Also present at the ceremony were City Council Speaker Peter F. Vallone; Manhattan Borough President, C. Virginia Fields; Wynton Marsalis, artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center and world-renowned trumpeter; Gordon J. Davis, Chairman of Jazz at Lincoln Center; Robert Gibson, Executive Producer and Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center; Rafael Viñoli, architect for the new site and Jonathan F.P. Rose, Member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Building Committee for the new Facility.

"Frederick P. Rose Hall will strengthen Lincoln Center's status as the greatest performance complex in the world," Mayor Giuliani said. "This new 100,000-square-foot facility will breathe new life into Columbus Circle and is a great example of what can be accomplished when the public and private sectors work together. We look forward to 2003, when New Yorkers will begin to reap the rewards of this collaboration."

When the plans for redevelopment were proposed for Columbus Circle two years ago, Mayor Giuliani insisted that any plan include a large theatre space. Since Jazz at Lincoln Center had been hoping to expand, it was a natural choice for the area. The City has committed $19 million towards construction of the new Hall ($9 million from the Giuliani Administration, $9 million from the City Council and $1 million from the Borough President).

The new facility will include a concert theatre, a performance atrium, a jazz café, an educational center, a jazz hall of fame and a full recording/broadcasting/webcasting facility. Frederick P. Rose Hall is slated to open in the fall of 2003.
