MAYOR GIULIANI STATEMENT ON JUDGES GANGEL-JACOB'S
DECISION ON NEW YORK APPLE TOURS

"The City plans to appeal Judge Gangel-Jacob's misguided order to appoint a monitor who will in turn approve a New York Apple Tour designated auditor. The auditor will, in effect, review paper records of the company and reports of summons and accidents. The simple appointment of a monitor fails to adequately protect the public or recognize the gravity of New York Apple Tours' violations. The City commenced formal revocation proceedings in April, prior to the fatal accident which claimed Randolph Walker's life. These proceedings could have been completed had New York Apple Tours not delayed the hearings. Given this company's history of violations, lawless behavior and disregard for public safety, the interim suspension of their license should remain in place."
