MAYOR GIULIANI SIGNS BILL THAT NAMES
BRONX CORNER AFTER LOUIS TUZZIO

-Remarks By Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani At Public Hearing On Local Laws-

The next bill before me, Introductory Number 661, sponsored by Council Members Provenzano, Abel and Golden, would add the name Louis Tuzzio Corner to the Northeast corner of Maclay Avenue and Seddon Street in the Bronx.

Louis Tuzzio was born in 1911 on the Lower East Side. In 1950, he moved to the Zerega community in the Bronx, where he lived for the next forty years.

During the 1970s, because of his work in the Zerega area, Mr. Tuzzio became known as the Mayor of Maclay. He was a proud Italian-American and enjoyed helping new immigrants to the community adjust to their new lives in the Bronx.

Sadly, on February 8, 1999, at the age of eighty-seven, Louis Tuzzio passed away.

Therefore, based on his lifelong devotion to the Zerega community, it is fitting that the Northeast corner of Maclay Avenue and Seddon Street be named Louis Tuzzio Corner.

For the reasons previously stated, I will now sign the bill.
