MAYOR GIULIANI JOINS WITH HEALTH CARE, MEDIA LEADERS
TO LAUNCH "COVER EVERY CHILD"

Public Awareness Campaign to Expand Health Care Coverage for Children

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today joined with 1199/SEIU President Dennis Rivera, Greater New York Hospital Association President Kenneth E. Raske, and WNBC President and General Manager Dennis Swanson to launch "Cover Every Child," a public information campaign to raise awareness of New York State's Child Health Plus insurance program for children, and to increase enrollment in Child Health Plus and Medicaid.

"Expanding access to health insurance is one of the most important ways the City can improve the lives of New Yorkers," Mayor Giuliani said. "That's the focus of my Administration's Health*STAT initiative, and it's also the focus of 'Cover Every Child'. I'm very excited about this new campaign, and look forward to working with the sponsors to help provide health care coverage to as many children as possible. Together, the City, the health care community, and the media can make a difference."

In June, the Mayor announced "Health*STAT," a new, comprehensive Citywide initiative to provide uninsured New Yorkers with health insurance. Health*STAT mobilizes all City agencies to identify uninsured New Yorkers, and assists them in enrolling in existing health care programs. Health*STAT's initial focus is to enroll the City's uninsured children in health insurance programs.

"Cover Every Child" is a joint initiative of the Greater New York Hospital Association, WNBC, and 1199/SEIU, New York's Health and Human Service Union. Child Health Plus, a state program, serves children with family incomes of up to 250% of the Federal Poverty Line (FPL), or $35,400 per year for a family of three. Medicaid, a federal program, serves very low income children and adults.
