MAYOR GIULIANI AND MAYOR BROWN
WAGER ON YANKEES -- ATHLETICS PLAYOFF SERIES

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Mayor Jerry Brown of Oakland, California, set wagering terms on the outcome of the American League Divisional Playoff Series between the New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics, which begins tonight at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland, California.

If the Yankees win, Mayor Brown owes Mayor Giuliani an assortment of appetizers and entrées from the popular Oakland restaurant Everett & Jones BBQ and agrees to wear a Yankees baseball cap in public. Should the Athletics win, Mayor Giuliani will send Mayor Brown a selection of deli sandwiches and desserts from Carnegie Deli, and he also agrees to wear an Athletics baseball cap in public.

"The New York Yankees are the team to beat and I am confident that they will retain the title of World Champions," said Mayor Giuliani. "After winning their 25th World Championship last year, the Yankees are ready to defend their title. I'm looking forward to adding to my collection of winnings from previous wagers -- which already includes a pair of cowboy boots, a 10-gallon hat, and a surfboard -- at the conclusion of this series. I also want to wish the best of luck to the New York Mets who, tomorrow night, for the second year in a row, are in the National League playoffs."
