MAYOR GIULIANI AND NYC & COMPANY PRESIDENT LATEGANO-NICHOLAS ANNOUNCE RADIO ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE CITY TOURISM

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and NYC & Company President & CEO Cristyne Lategano-Nicholas today announced the launch of a radio advertising campaign to promote New York City's tourism industry. Beginning tomorrow radio advertisements will be aired in key visitor markets including Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

"People around the world have always found New York City to be a great place to visit," said Mayor Giuliani. "That's even truer today as we witnessed a record number of tourists visiting our City last year. Today for the first time in 44 years New York City is hosting a Subway Series. The worldwide publicity from this Subway Series will greatly contribute to New York City's popularity as a tourist destination for millions of people around the world."

The radio advertisements feature Mayor Giuliani, as the voice of New York City, describing the excitement of the City surrounding this year's Subway Series. In the advertisements the Mayor invites visitors to take advantage of all that New York City has to offer this winter, during New York City's winter celebration, Paint the Town Red. This Citywide tourism marketing program will begin January 5th and continue through February 28th. It will feature special savings at hotels, restaurants, Broadway shows, museums and attractions, as well as special events including Winter Restaurant Week and the cultural Insider's Hour program.

"An historic event like the Subway Series attracts worldwide attention, and demonstrates New York City's vitality in all aspects - sports, media, entertainment, business, shopping and culture, and I couldn't think of a better time to jump start our tourism promotions," said Cristyne Lategano-Nicholas, President & CEO, NYC & Company. "We anticipate over 38.4 million visitors this year, spending $16.7 million, and that's great news for our City's economy."
