MAYOR GIULIANI APPOINTS GEOFFREY N. HESS
AS THE SENIOR ADVISOR TO THE MAYOR

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today announced the appointment of Geoffrey N. Hess as Senior Advisor to the Mayor. He succeeds Anthony P. Coles, who was appointed Deputy Mayor for Planning, Education and Cultural Affairs in March, 2000.

"I am delighted that Geoffrey Hess has agreed to return to the Administration and I look forward to working closely with him," Mayor Giuliani said. "The Senior Advisor is a position that I established to focus on new initiatives in City government. Having previously served in City Hall and having contributed to the accomplishments of my Administration, Geoff is perfectly suited to take on this challenging role. He will be able to draw upon the relationships he established with the private sector as well as his knowledge of New York City government to bring a broad base of knowledge and experience to this position. I welcome him back."

"I am thrilled to return to public service under Mayor Giuliani and to help continue to build upon his Administration's many accomplishments," Geoff Hess said. "I look forward to dedicating myself over the next fourteen months to help getting things done."

As Senior Advisor to the Mayor, Mr. Hess will be responsible for developing and implementing new initiatives and overseeing the re-engineering of City processes. He will help manage general strategic development for the Administration and provide advice and counsel on day-to-day operations.

A real estate lawyer, Mr. Hess returns to City Hall having been an associate at Tishman Speyer Properties where he managed the negotiation of major commercial leasing transactions. He had previously served as Special Counsel to the Deputy Mayor for Operations in the Giuliani Administration from 1997 to 1999. From 1994 to 1997, Mr. Hess was a real estate associate at the Manhattan law firm of Thacher Proffitt & Wood where he represented investment banks in commercial mortgage originations throughout the country.

A native New Yorker, Mr. Hess, 31, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991. He graduated from Fordham Law School and received his juris doctor in 1994.
