STATEMENT OF MAYOR GIULIANI ON THE PASSING OF TOMMIE AGEE

"Baseball fans will long remember the talents of Tommie Agee, a great outfielder who played for the Indians, White Sox, Mets, Astros, and Cardinals. In 1966, Agee earned Rookie of the Year and Gold Glove honors for an outstanding first full season with the Chicago White Sox, and then again was awarded the Gold Glove in 1970 when with the New York Mets.

"But he will forever be remembered by New Yorkers for the role he played with the 1969 'Miracle Mets.' His two home runs in the National League Championship Series helped the Mets earn a trip to the World Series. And Mets fans everywhere will never forget his performance in Game 3 of the World Series, when he led off with a homerun and then helped the Mets preserve their lead with two of the most memorable catches in World Series history. I want to express my deepest sympathies to his family."
