MAYOR GIULIANI ANNOUNCES SCALEBACK OF GROUND ZERO PEREIMETER

Homeowners and Building Owners Given Expanded Access in Affected Area

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani announced today that all residents and building owners that occupy Chambers Street, Warren Street, and the north side of Murray Street between Greenwich Street and Broadway are now able to re-occupy their buildings. As of 9 PM last night, the metal fences that were erected along Chambers Street were moved to the middle of Murray Street, thus allowing for limited pedestrian and limited vehicular access in this expanded area.

The streets indicated above have been cleaned and tested and found to be safe. In addition, electricity and water service has been restored to all buildings in this zone. Most buildings in the expansion area also have full gas service. However, building owners/managers who experience gas service interruption can call Con Edison's 24-hour hotline at (646) 756-3091/92 for assistance.

Residents and building owners will need proper identification to gain access to their buildings, and will not be permitted to park on any of the re-opened streets. Chambers Street, Warren Street and the north side of Murray Street will be open to limited pedestrian and commercial traffic for pick-up and drop-off only. As such, no vehicle parking will be permitted on any block in the affected zone. Vehicles that violate this restriction will be subject to towing.

Residents and business owners will be allowed to conduct business as usual. No Parking rules will be in effect in this area until further notice. No Standing regulations will also be in effect for commercial vehicles. Truck drivers and passengers must have proper ID at all times and under no circumstances should a truck be left unattended.

Building owners can find re-occupancy guidelines by logging onto www.nyc.gov and clicking on "Business and Employment Resources."
