MAYOR GIULIANI AND MAYOR SCHELL OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
PLACE FRIENDLY WAGER ON THE OUTCOME OF THE AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
New York Yankees to Challenge The Seattle Mariners
for a spot In the World Series
Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today challenged
Mayor Paul Schell of Seattle, Washington to a friendly wager on the outcome of
the American League Championship Series that kicks off tomorrow afternoon at Seattle's
Safeco Field between the New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners. The winner
of the best of seven game series will go on to play in the World Series. The terms
of the wager are as follows:
Should the New York Yankees
lose, Mayor Giuliani will:
- Arrange for a complimentary weekend
vacation stay for two in New York's Millenium Broadway Hotel, located in famed
Times Square.
- Offer dinner for two at the Tribeca
Grill, one of the City's best restaurants, located in Manhattan's trendy and
vibrant Tribeca neighborhood.
- Provide tickets for a Broadway
show at a Nederlander Theatre, Times Square.
- Send a case of Nathan's World
Famous hot dogs (240 hot dogs) along with a supply of buns and mustard. To
many, Nathan's hot dogs are an integral part of the storied New York baseball
tradition. Nathan's hot dogs are sold today in both Yankee Stadium, and at
the new KeySpan Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones.
- The Mayor will also send 4 dozen
assorted bagels from H & H Bagels, considered by many to be the best bagels
made in New York City and the country, and two of H&H's "The Taste
of New York," a special gift package each containing 2 dozen bagels,
cream cheese, lox and coffee mugs.
- Additionally, the Mayor will
send a of side smoked salmon from Zabar's, an Upper West Side landmark deli
and catering establishment, which has been a family-run institution in New
York City for 67 years.
- Finally, a case of delicious
Stella Doro cookies, made in the Bronx, home of the NY Yankees, will also
be sent to Mayor Schell.
"The exciting and historic
win last night by the Yankees which propelled them into the American League
Championship Series was the kind of uplifting, shot-in-the-arm experience that
all New Yorkers deserved," said Mayor Giuliani. "The Yankees' sensational
come-from-behind performance typifies what we all feel these days - that New
York is on the rebound, and that we'll be back stronger and more determined
than ever! I wish the Yankees good luck in their upcoming series, and look forward
to watching them compete in their fifth World Series in the last 6 years."
Should the Seattle Mariners
lose, Mayor Schell will:
- Arrange for a weekend vacation
stay for two at the Edgewater Hotel, located in the waterfront district of
downtown Seattle. The Mayor will be offered the "Beatles Room,"
the room in which The Beatles stayed during their visit to Seattle. Additionally,
dinner for two at "67," the Hotel's restaurant will also be included.
- Mayor Schell will also send one
fresh king salmon, and a case of delicious Washington apples, both from purveyors
in world-famous Pike Place Market.
- Complimentary City Passes to
many of Seattle's major attractions will also be provided, including tickets
to the Space Needle, the Seattle Aquarium, the Seattle Center, the Museum
of Flight and the Experience Music Project, among others.
- Finally, Mayor Schell will ship
a magnum of a Washington Siraz, from the Washington Wine Commission.
