Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today announced the successful results of the third Twin Towers Job Expo at Madison Square Garden, aimed primarily at assisting victims of the World Trade Center attack. More than 5,700 individuals attended this job fair. Based on surveys of employers, the 5,700 job fair participants:

• had 72,750 contacts with employers; and,
  
• provided 51,429 resumes and job applications to employers.

  The employers also reported that they had:

• conducted 27,409 screenings and interviews; and,
  
• more than 5,000 prospective hires. *

*Note: This number does not necessarily represent the total number of individuals who did or will receive a job. An individual could be reported as a prospective hire by more than one company.

More than 50 percent of those who attended the job fair reported that their job had been affected by the World Trade Center attack. Among the 275 employers that participated in today's fair were AXA Financial Advisors, Century 21, Sprint PCS and Bloomberg L.P. More than 20,000 jobs in retail, finance, technology, healthcare, food service, security, and other employment fields were available.

The Twin Towers Job Expo is part of a coordinated effort by the Mayor, Governor and business and non-profit organizations to assist workers displaced by the World Trade Center tragedy.

To provide assistance to employees looking for work as a result of the attacks, the City and State have opened four Twin Towers Job Centers; created a Twin Towers Job Hotline for job seekers; and created a Twin Towers Job Bank for employers to list available opportunities.

The Twin Towers Job Centers-in Jamaica, Queens; Lower Manhattan; Midtown Manhattan; and Downtown Brooklyn-have served more than 3,000 job seekers to date, connecting them to available opportunities and providing other employment-related assistance.

The Twin Towers Job Hotline also connects those seeking jobs to job opportunities and other assistance. Individuals whose employment has been affected by the attacks can call (718) 557-1332 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekends.

Businesses wishing to place jobs in the Twin Towers Job Bank-so that the openings can be filled by those displaced or unemployed as a result of the attack-can call (800) 935-7507 or log on to www.nyc.gov/twintowersjobs.
