Murder is down 7.4 percent this year over last year and down more than 67 percent from eight years ago.
"The most recent CompStat figures show that New York City's crime rate continues to decline this year, building upon the tremendous gains we have achieved over the last eight years," the Mayor said. "The men and women of the NYPD, and all of their partners in the community, should be commended for leading the nation in the fight against crime. The NYPD is committed to utilizing innovative techniques and redeploying resources wherever they are needed most to drive crime down even further."
Police Commissioner Kerik said, "Since the end of last year, crime continues to drop, with a 12.77% decrease since last year.
