Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today launched the City’s newly redesigned official World Wide Web page, NYC.gov, representing the future of the public’s interaction with City government. The City’s web site and the Mayor’s home page comes under the supervision of the Mayor’s Director of Communications, Cristyne F. Lategano.
The mission of NYC.govis to provide the public with quick and easy access to information about New York City agencies, programs and services. The City’s Web site also provides, through links to external sites, information about cultural, educational and recreational activities in New York City.
“My administration has a strong commitment to fostering the growth of the new media industry in New York,” said Mayor Giuliani. “NYC.govis not only a means of showcasing New York City to people around the world, it is a practical tool for New Yorkers to find out useful information they need every day.”
The site offers visitors the opportunity to learn about City agencies and services, business resources, upcoming events and tourist attractions in New York City and links with New York City’s key cultural institutions and sports teams. The web site also offers recent press releases, Giuliani administration initiatives and Mayoral speeches and allows visitors to search through the site using key words.
The City of New York is inviting home page designs from the new media community. In exchange for corporate or personal attribution, selected home pages will be featured for a period of time as the New York City home page on NYC.gov. Participation in this is limited to persons or entities who live, study or have a business based in New York.
Home page designs and HTML files should be submitted to the Mayor’s Office of Operations, 100 Church Street, 20th Floor by September 15th, 1996. The criteria for the design of the home page is located on under “What’s New” on NYC.gov.
