"The New York City Police Department is proud of its contribution to the 13th Annual National Night Out Against Crime," Commissioner Safir said. "Tonight is an opportunity for New Yorkers to come together and send a very clear message, in one voice to criminals that concerned citizens, community groups and civilian observation patrols are working hand and hand with the Department to take back our streets, to take back our neighborhoods and to show that working together we will continue to significantly reduce crime and the fear of crime in our cities."
Neighborhoods throughout New York City will host a variety of community sponsored crime-prevention events and outdoor activities. The National Night Out Against Crime is designed to generate interest and participation in local anti-crime programs, to strengthen neighborhood and NYPD partnerships and to demonstrate that neighborhoods are determined to help in the fight against crime.
The Mayor and Police Commissioner, joined by Assemblyman Keith Wright, Commanding Officer of the 28th Precinct Deputy Inspector Joyce Stephen and PSA #6 Captain David Dunne, helped draw raffle tickets for five bicycles awarded to children from the area.
