"The Dominican community has a special place in the heart of New York City," Mayor Giuliani said. "The more than 500,000 Dominicans who make their homes here represent the largest Dominican population outside of the Dominican Republic and New York is the privileged recipient of their rich cultural heritage."
"Their outstanding contributions have touched all areas of society," Mayor Giuliani continued. "The civic, economic, social, and cultural life of New York City has benefited immensely from the Dominican presence and will continue to grow along with their successes."
"I am very grateful for the support that the Mayor has given us," said Mr. Pe¤a. "Events like this parade help us to promote our cultural heritage and our contributions to the city."
The 15th annual parade will take place next Sunday, August 11, along 6th Avenue. This event celebrates the 152nd anniversary of the restoration of the Dominican Constitution and features marchers of all ages, hundreds of colorful floats and the distinctive music of the Dominican Republic.
