MAYOR GIULIANI SENDS OFF ACS KIDS, STAFF AND FOSTER FAMILIES FOR DAY LONG CRUISE ON THE FLOATING HOSPITAL

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Administration for Children's Services (ACS) Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta today attended a bon voyage ceremony for ACS children, staff and foster families who were participating in day-long cruise around Manhattan on the Floating Hospital.

"Every day of the year the Floating Hospital's hard working and innovative staff helps to assure that thousands of these young New Yorkers receive the healthy foundation they need to live productive lives," Mayor Giuliani said. "It gives me great pleasure to congratulate you on behalf of the City of New York for the great work you have done for the past 130 years. Your dedication and vision have helped build a better City for all New Yorkers. I hope all of the members of the ACS family enjoy their day at sea."

"Many thanks to Kathleen Lopez, the Executive Director of the Floating Hospital, for making this sail possible," Commissioner Scoppetta said. "This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to see New York from its waterways, and, at the same time, for these kids to receive medical care, dental care, and health education. The Floating Hospital provides an important service for New York City's children, and we are delighted to have this opportunity to join with the Hospital's dedicated staff."

During their voyage, ACS children and foster children will take advantage of free medical and health related services offered to thousands of children a year. Medical and dental care is made available by the Floating Hospital for New York's disadvantage. The children and foster families will also be able to participate in arts and crafts, aerobics and health education seminars.
