MAYOR GIULIANI HONORS TWO STATEN ISLAND LITTLE LEAGUE TEAMS AS 1996 NEW YORK STATE AND NEW YORK CITY CHAMPIONS

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today honored two South Shore Little League of Staten Island teams as the 1996 New York State and New York City Little League Champions in a ceremony on the steps of City Hall. Joining the Mayor in honoring the teams were City Council Members Vito Fossella and John Fusco and Assemblyman Robert Straniere.

"This was a banner year for South Shore teams on Staten Island and it is a good omen for the fortunes of our own New York Yankees and New York Mets," Mayor Giuliani said. " One South Shore team captured the New York State title in the 11 and 12 year-old division and another South Shore squad captured the New York City title in the 9 and 10-year old division. Congratulations to the players, their coaches, their parents and their communities. New York City is proud of you."

At the City Hall ceremony, the Mayor presented all of the team members with certificates.
