MAYOR CUTS RIBBON FOR FIFTH AVENUE PHOTO GALLERY

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, joined by supermodel Amber Valletta, officially opened the 5th Avenue Photo Gallery, an exhibit of elegant Fifth Avenue architectural photos taken by top fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier.

"From the Empire State Building to Washington Square, from Central Park to Rockefeller Center, from the Metropolitan Museum to the Museum of the City of New York, Fifth Avenue has it all," said Mayor Giuliani. "Fifth Avenue means elegance, prestige and sophistication and Elizabeth Arden could not have picked a better location for her salon 86 years ago or a better name for a new fragrance."

"I'm sure New Yorkers and visitors alike will be mesmerized by the beauty of this photo exhibit in the same way they are enchanted with the wonders of Fifth Avenue. I'd like to thank Elizabeth Arden and Patrick Demarchelier for the great job they've done in showcasing both Fifth Avenue and New York City, the Capital of the World," he added.

The gallery of Demarchelier's work will occupy the first floor of the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon and be opened to the public through Tuesday, December 31, 1996. The photographs were commissioned by Elizabeth Arden in conjunction with the launch of its new fragrance, "5th Avenue."

The Mayor was also joined by Peter England, President and CEO of Elizabeth Arden and by famed composer / producer Nile Rodgers, the native New Yorker who wrote and produced "On the Avenue." The music will be used as the theme music for Elizabeth Arden's "5th Avenue" fragrance advertising. The print and television ad campaign features Amber Valletta who is the supermodel "face" of Elizabeth Arden.
