MAYOR GIULIANI KICKS-OFF THE HOLIDAY SEASON PROCLAIMING CHRISTMAS COMES TO NEW YORK DAY AT THE OPENING OF RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL'S CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani kicked-off the opening night ceremonies of the 1996 Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular this evening and presented a proclamation declaring November 8, 1996 as Christmas Comes to New York Day.

"On behalf of all New Yorkers, I am pleased to present this proclamation declaring November 8th as the official first day of the 1996 holiday season," said Mayor Giuliani. "From the tree at Rockefeller Center, to the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center, to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, there is nowhere to celebrate the holiday season better than right here in New York."

"The holiday season in New York City is a magical time of good will and heart-warming celebration. For more than six decades, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular has been a tradition for New Yorkers and visitors alike. The holidays would not be complete without the amazing holiday performances by the Rockettes," added Mayor Giuliani.

Each year, more than one million people from all over the world attend Radio City's Christmas Spectacular. This year the Rockettes present the beloved "March of the Wooden Soldiers" and "Christmas in New York." On stage, animals journey to see the child in the manger during the solemn nativity scene and bears dance to the music of Tchaikovsky's nutcracker suite. "Here comes Santa Claus" debuts this year.
