MAYOR GIULIANI ADDRESSES THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE
FOR THE FURTHERANCE OF JEWISH EDUCATION

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani tonight addressed the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE) at its fifty-sixth national awards dinner held at the Sheraton Center in New York City. The Mayor praised the leadership of Rabbi J. J. Hecht and acknowledged the significant contributions the Committee has made to the City.

"Under the leadership of Rabbi Hecht, this organization has made a tradition of providing a vast array of outstanding education and social service programs for many New Yorkers," said Mayor Giuliani. "From preschool through the collegiate Yeshiva programs and the Ivy League Torah study program, the NCFJE prides itself on providing the best education for their students."

"Programs like the poor and sick fund, food distribution, toys for hospitalized children and service to Russian Jewry are just a few examples of the wonderful programs that have made a positive impact on our communities," added the Mayor. "I extend my congratulations to Rabbi Hecht for continuing the proud legacy of his father's work."

In addition to their educational programs, NCFJE also offers other programs like marriage counseling, career placement and training and substance abuse prevention.
