REACTION TO THE NEWLY PUBLISHED "PLACES RATED ALMANAC" WHICH INCORRECTLY RANKS NEW YORK CITY'S CRIME RATE

"The Administration's reaction to this book is one of complete astonishment. MacMillan [the book's publisher] must be living in a time warp. New York City is the safest big city in America -- ranking 150th in overall crime.

"Among the cities which the Almanac ranks safer than New York are Atlanta, which ranks first in crime, St. Louis which ranks second, Newark which ranks fourth, Detroit which ranks 22nd and New Orleans which ranks 32nd. The Giuliani Administration would rate "Places Rated" pretty low in terms of overall accuracy."
