STATEMENT BY DEPUTY MAYOR RANDY MASTRO REGARDING SHIPBOARD GAMING OPERATIONS BY BAY CRUISES

"I am pleased to announce that following discussions with the City's Department of Investigation and Law Department, Bay Cruises has agreed to a number of stipulations regarding the shipboard gaming operations it has been conducting out of Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn since December 19, 1996.

The key elements of the agreement are as follows:

Bay Cruises has agreed to cease gambling operations from today (January 2) though January 15, 1997.

The company will fully cooperate with the Department of Investigation (DOI) in its background investigations into Bay Cruises, its principals and employees as to their fitness to conduct gaming operations. The standard for the background investigation will be the same as is applied to assess the "fitness" of license applicants under the recently adopted Trade Waste Law.

Bay Cruises has agreed to remove any person found to be "unfit" by DOI within five days of the determination.

The company will pay all applicable taxes and fees and agrees to include in any such taxable amounts all proceeds from its gaming operations.

Bay Cruises has agreed to support City legislation to regulate the gaming industry.
