MAYOR GIULIANI DELIVERS KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT RACHEL L. CARSON SCHOOL'S CAREER DAY

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today delivered the keynote address at the 16th Annual Career Day for ninth grade students at Rachel L. Carson School/Intermediate School 237Q in Flushing, Queens. Joining the Mayor were District Superintendent Arthur Greenburg, School Principal Joseph C ntara, and WPIX Anchorwoman Kaity Tong, Sportscaster David Sims, and Weatherman Mr. G.

School 237Q, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, recently conducted an informal survey that identified 86 languages and dialects - from Farsi to Pashtu - spoken by its pupils.

"The diversity we find at Intermediate School 237Q is a reflection of the diversity that has made New York the capital of the world," said Mayor Giuliani. "For the past three years, economic growth and improved quality of life have made New York City the perfect place for businesses to prosper and many of those business owners are immigrants who came here to give their families a better life."

"As I talk to you today, I can assure you that, as young people with goals and ambitions, New York is where you want to be; the City where prosperity, excellence in education and job opportunities are coming together to fulfill our young people's dreams.

"As I walk around this auditorium and see the many different career opportunities available, you may take an interest in meteorology or broadcast journalism," added the Mayor. " You may even become the next Kaity Tong or Mr. G. And while it's important to guide you in the right direction, once you're there we want to make sure that job opportunities are available to you. "And as our City continues to grow and prosper in the years to come, there will be even more job opportunities available as you enter the City's workforce," concluded the Mayor.
