MAYOR GIULIANI AND MAYOR RENDELL OF PHILADELPHIA WAGER ON RANGERS-FLYERS PLAYOFF SERIES

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell today laid down wagering conditions on the outcome of the National Hockey League Eastern Conference Finals between the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers.

When the Rangers win the playoff series, Mayor Rendell owes Mayor Giuliani a supply of Philly Cheesesteaks. In the unlikely event of a Flyers victory, Mayor Rendell will receive a supply of Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs from Mayor Giuliani. Modell's Sporting Goods has also agreed to make a $5,000 contribution to the winning Mayor's favorite charity.

"The Rangers dismantled the Florida Panthers and then knocked off our cross-river rivals, the New Jersey Devils," Mayor Giuliani said. "I fully expect the Rangers' streak to continue. There's no doubt the Flyers are a talented team but they will be no match for Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Brian Leetch and the superb goaltending of Mike Richter. While Philly Cheesesteaks are not nearly as tasty as Nathan's Hot Dogs, I will thoroughly enjoy collecting on Mayor Rendell's wager because it will mean that the Rangers are in the Stanley Cup Finals again."

Last year during the Yankees championship season, Mayor Giuliani made and won a series of wagers with the mayors of Arlington and Atlanta.

The New York Rangers last won the Stanley Cup in 1994. The Rangers and Flyers will face off in Game One of the Eastern Conference Finals tomorrow evening in Philadelphia.
