MAYOR GIULIANI FORKS OVER NATHAN'S HOT DOGS TO MAYOR RENDELL

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today upheld his part of the wager made with Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell at the start of the National Hockey League Eastern Conference Finals between the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers. Mayor Giuliani handed over a supply of Nathan's Famous New York City red hots to Mayor Rendell. Modell's Sporting Goods also donated a blank $5000 check to the charity of Mayor Rendell's choice.

"As much as it pains me, I would like to congratulate the Flyers on their hard earned victory," Mayor Giuliani said. "I also want to take this opportunity to honor the Rangers for making it as far as they did. Though battered and bruised, the Blue Shirts played with the heart, grit and determination New Yorkers are known for. I know that Mayor Rendell will enjoy the spoils of victory and I wish the Flyers luck in their championship run."

Had the Rangers won, Mayor Rendell would have turned over a supply of Philly Cheesesteaks to Mayor Giuliani.

"It will break the hearts of many New Yorkers to lose this many Nathan's franks after being defeated in the Eastern Conference finals, but we must live up to our word," said Nathan's spokesperson Rick Bourdreaux.

"In any competition between great teams, the fans are always the winners," said Modell's Chairman William Modell.

The Flyers defeated the Rangers in five games, ending the Ranger's quest for their second Stanley Cup in four years. The Flyers will next play the Detroit Red Wings, who defeated the defending Stanley Cup champions Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference finals.
