MAYOR GIULIANI FLIPS SWITCH TO LAUNCH 'FOX SPORTS NET' NATIONAL CABLE NETWORK

'SportsChannel-New York' Becomes 'FOX Sports New York'

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Cablevision System Corporation Chairman Charles Dolan today flipped the switch to officially launch FOX Sports Net, the country's first national, regional and local supplier of sports television programming. Joining them from London via satellite at Madison Square Garden's Theater was Rupert Murdoch, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the News Corporation.

"New York City -- the media capital of the world -- is home to great sports teams and the greatest fans in America," Mayor Giuliani said. "Every day of the year, whether playing a game of pick-up basketball or watching the Knicks and Rangers either here at the Garden or at home on TV, New Yorkers of all ages live and breathe sports. FOX Sports Net will provide comprehensive national and local coverage of all sports, satisfying the serious needs of New York fan's. On behalf of all New Yorkers, I congratulate Chuck Dolan and Rupert Murdoch on the launch of FOX Sports Net."

Cablevision System Corporation Chairman Charles Dolan said, "We are delighted to be putting the finishing touches on this alliance. FOX Sports Net will be an unparalleled source of sports programming that combines the regional sports expertise of Cablevision's Rainbow Media with the tremendous power of the FOX brand name in sports."

News Corporation Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch said, "Today's announcement weaves the final thread in a web of regional sports channels which together establish a powerhouse sports network featuring superb local and national sports programming. Fox Sports Net also delivers unsurpassed branding muscle to advertisers."

FOX Sports Net is a service of National Sports Partners, a joint venture between FOX/Liberty Networks and Cablevision's Rainbow Media Holdings that reaches more than 58 million homes nationwide. FOX Sports Net, the first truly national, regional and local supplier of sports programming, is now on 10 FOX/Liberty and five Rainbow regional sports channels as well as MSG Network and FOX Sports Net affiliated regional sports systems.

As part of today's launch, SportsChannel-New York, the cable television home to the New York Mets, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils and the New Jersey Nets, was renamed FOX Sports New York. Madison Square Garden Network, home to the New York Yankees, New York Rangers and New York Knicks, will also carry select FOX Sports Net programming but will retain its brand name.
