"With the death of Roy Rogers, New York City has lost a good friend and the nation has lost an entertainment icon and a great humanitarian. For six decades Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were among the country's most popular entertainers on television and in film. What many Americans did not know was how active the couple was in their work on behalf of children in need, raising funds and making personal appearances all over the country. Roy Rogers will be remembered in New York for his work on behalf of children's health programs at Our Lady Of Mercy Medical Center, where the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Children's Center helps care for children every day. In fact, three years ago we welcomed Roy Rogers and Dale Evans to City Hall where we proclaimed September 14, 1995 as 'Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Day' in New York City to honor them for their wonderful work with children. To Dale Evans and all the Rogers family, the people of New York City send their heartfelt condolences."
