STATEMENT BY MAYOR RUDOLPH W. GIULIANI REGARDING THE SELECTION OF ST. GEORGE, STATEN ISLAND AS THE SITE OF THE FIRST NATIONAL LIGHTHOUSE MUSEUM

"I take great pride and joy in congratulating Staten Island Borough President Guy Molinari and all Staten Islanders on the designation of St. George as the home of the first-ever National Lighthouse Museum. St. George was selected from a group of 17 sites nationwide after an exhaustive year-long search. The National Lighthouse Museum Steering Committee's decision demonstrates a clear vote of confidence in the economic vitality of Staten Island and New York City and I am confident that the location will live up to the Committee's expectations. Constructed on the grounds of the old St. George Coast Guard base, the museum will showcase lighthouse artifacts and historical displays that will surely add to the cultural richness and economic development of the area.

"I welcome this museum to the ranks of the City's other great museums and I know it will prove to be one of the City's finest tourist attractions."
