MAYOR GIULIANI RELEASED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT REGARDING THE "BLACK TO THE FUTURE" FLOAT THAT APPEARED IN THE BROAD CHANNEL VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT LABOR DAY PARADE:

"I have spoken to Commissioners Safir and Von Essen and we all agree that any police officer, fire fighter or other City employee involved in this disgusting display of racism should be removed from positions of responsibility immediately. They will be fired.

"If these individuals are truly sorry for their actions, their apology should be accompanied by resignations. They have all demonstrated that they do not understand what it means to be a City employee."
