MAYOR GIULIANI AND MAYOR ODOM OF ARLINGTON, TEXAS WAGER ON YANKEES - RANGERS PLAYOFF SERIES

Sporting Cowboy Boots He Won From Texas In '96, Mayor Giuliani Looks Forward To Winning Again

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Mayor Elzie Odom, of Arlington, Texas, set wagering terms on the outcome of the American League Divisional Playoff Series between the New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers, which begins tonight at Yankee Stadium.

If the Yankees win, Mayor Odom owes Mayor Giuliani a 10-gallon hat, a Texas-size portion of Texas Barbecue, and agrees to wear a Yankees baseball cap in public. Should the Rangers win, Mayor Giuliani will send Mayor Odom a pair of tickets to the hit Broadway show of his choice, a pair of tickets to the world-renowned Metropolitan Opera and a New York-size portion of Nathan's Hot Dogs. Mayor Giuliani also agrees to wear a Rangers baseball cap in public.

"The New York Yankees are an unstoppable force this year," declared Mayor Giuliani. "And I'm looking forward to watching the Yankees win the playoffs and the World Series. I was happy to hear that Mayor Odom had the courage to wager this year, despite a 1996 wager with Arlington Mayor Greene in which the Yankees won the World Series and I won a pair of Texas cowboy boots. I plan to wear these boots to tonight's game, because these boots were made for winning. I am looking forward to completing my Western-wear outfit with a new 10-gallon hat after the Yankees beat the Rangers."

This is not the first wager that Mayor Giuliani has made on a New York sports team. In the past, the Mayor has won bets based on the winning streaks of the Rangers, the Knicks and the Yankees.
