Norman Vincent Peale was born in Bowersville, Ohio on May 31, 1898. After graduating from the Boston University School of Theology, he was ordained and soon gained a reputation as a dynamic preacher.
At age 35, Dr. Peale accepted a position with the Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan. He remained there, building the congregation through the Depression, World War II and into the early eighties. With the Marble Collegiate Church as his base, Dr. Peale expanded his operations to include radio broadcasts and magazine publishing. He was best described as perfecting his simplification of the gospel message.
In remembrance of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and his work at the Marble Collegiate Church, it is fitting that this bill would add the name "Norman Vincent Peale Way" to West 29th Street between Broadway and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
For the reasons previously stated, I will now sign the bill.
