"The good news for New York City continues. In February the City gained 2,900 private sector jobs, up 2.9 percent compared to February 1998. Since December 1993 we have created 305,000 jobs, a stark comparison to the 320,000 lost in the previous administration. The City is now just 900 jobs shy of the December 1987 private sector job high of 3,025,300. In addition, the City's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 7.6 percent - levels not seen since the early 1990's. Today's news further shows that New York City's ability to create jobs is strong and that the City will remain a leader and an example in job creation for other cities across the country."
