MAYOR GIULIANI PROCLAIMS OUT-OF-TOWNERS DAY

Paramount Pictures' Out-Of-Towners Stars Goldie Hawn And Steve Martin Join The Mayor At A City Hall Ceremony

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today proclaimed Wednesday, March 31st as The Out-Of-Towners Day in the New York City in honor of the new Paramount Pictures movie The Out-of-Towners. Directed by Sam Weisman, the film began principal photography in New York City in March 1998, shooting a total of seven weeks in the City. Locations included: Fulton Fish Market, Greenwich Village, Tavern on the Green, Times Square, Wall Street and Madison Avenue. The film opens in local theatres on Friday, April 2nd.

Joining the Mayor, who plays a cameo role in the film, were Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting Commissioner Patricia Reed Scott and the film's stars Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn.

"In The Out-of-Towners, Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn play a couple who will do anything to create more passion in their marriage," the Mayor said. "They couldn't choose a better place to achieve their goal. With New York City as a backdrop their trip turns into 24 hours of zaniness that eventually brings them closer together.

"I am delighted to welcome Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin to City Hall today in a much more peaceful environment than the one their film characters encountered as a reluctantly adventurous couple in The Out-of Towners," the Mayor continued. "I am sure that New Yorkers will enjoy this movie as much as I enjoyed playing a role in it."

Commissioner Scott said, "If there's anything New Yorkers like better than good movies, it's big laughs. A movie that combines the comedic talents of Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin is doubly welcome."

For the fifth year in a row, feature film production in New York City has reached a new historic level. The number of films shot in the City has more than tripled since 1993, with a total of 221 films shot during 1998. Last year, direct expenditures for feature films totaled $993 million.
